New Rotary Owner

First off, allow me to introduce myself. I'm a junior Engineering Technology major at Texas A&M University, and I'm a part-time (full time over the summer) Spec Miata technician for Texas World Speedway's Performance Driving School. I'm also the powertrain Crew Chief for A&M's 2009 Grassroots Challenge team, and I've been appointed Project Manager for 2010. I drive a (slightly) modified 2001 Civic on a daily basis that sees some occasional autocross here and there.

I live and breathe cars, and love challenges, mechanically speaking. I know next to nothing about rotary engines, or carburetors, for that matter. Everything I've ever worked on has been a fuel-injected reciprocating engine.

Which is why I'm so excited about my new baby. This car has been living at the track for years, and recently was placed for sale. I was given a chance to purchase it for $500, and jumped on it. She doesn't run, but that's not far off. Here are some pictures:

So far I've replaced the plugs and changed the oil, added an alternator belt, and fogged it with Marvel Mystery Oil. It turns over on its own power, and has fuel at the carb. All plugs are firing, and it burned off the Marvel in there, so I have a feeling getting it running isn't that far off.

Current plans for this car are to get it running. I want to remove some of the emissions control systems, as there seem to be a lot and Brazos County doesn't have emissions testing. Once it's running in good shape, I plan to rebuild some worn-out suspension parts, and autocross the hell out of it. Beyond that, who knows. It may have a 13BT in its future or something like that.

Thanks Dan. I didn't quite copy you, that's just the way the cards fell.

I'll have to check, I wasn't aware it's a rare color.

The car spent most of its life in Washington state, so that makes sense.

Yes, I've started a build thread in the FB section:

I'm starting to pull the 12A tomorrow, as soon as I finish my new workbench for this project.
