New owner of a 1988 turbo rx7

Hey everyone, I'm a new member of the rotary club, with my 1988 Turbo II Mazda Rx7. I am currently twenty years old, and this marks my third vehicle. My automotive experiences we're mostly with older jdm machines, specifically Datsuns. My first car was a 73' 510, and my current daily is a 1972 Datsun 620 pickup.

My plans for my project Rx7 is to get it running and driving and try to get her pretty again. She's been off the road since 03', and she's going to need alot of tlc.

Looks like a really nice example! They are getting harder and harder to find in an unmolested condition. Would love to see more pics of the car! Do you know any of the car's history?

Welcome to the board. :)

I look forward to seeing your journey with this car. I've always enjoyed a stock or stock-looking T2. Would like to see more photos of it. Hell, put up some of the truck and the 510, too.

Update.

I wasnt quite sure if my post actually posted or not yesterday. But anyway, some quick information. I bought the Rx7 a few miles away from my house, and the owner received it from his aunt who daily drove it back in the 90's or so.

Here's my first car, my 1973 Datsun 510. I got it from a guy in redding and it sat in a field since 1990. Got it as a father son project. It was a blast to drive, flat top l16, su carbs. I lost it when I got t-boned in 2016 a few days after graduation.

My daily driver, 1972 datsun 620.

When I first got her in 16'. She sat in a field since 89' until a tow company towed her and sold her to me.

Previous owner or someone in between over extended both driver and passenger doors, and actually bent the upper frame of the driver door. Hopefully I can repair that, or I'll have to replace it.

One of the original 7 spoke polished rims has a pretty bad dent. Probably not good..

Passenger floor is dented upwards from a P.O's misplacement of a jack. Similar common issues that I've seen with Datsun 240's.

Engine bay was complete, I'm gutting it in order to replace just about everything. Injectors are stuck, turbo needs a rebuild. I'll be rebuilding the turbo myself, and refurbishing the alternator myself since I don't trust \"AutoZone remans" anymore.

Battery needs a relocation. The battery box is destroyed, and looks like the p.o. had ripped one of the metal ears.

If you've noticed, I seem to buy alot of cars that aren't running and been sitting for years. Guess I like to punish myself sometimes.

Looks like a very rebuildable car. I would restore that as I have restored worse. As far as the battery is concerned, all you need is another battery tray. The battery tray just bolts to the body. They commonly crack on the turbo cars due to the heat.

Absolutely love the Dastun pickup! You never see those anymore, especially out here in the snow belt.

Sorry to hear about what happened to the 510. There was a time I used to love those cars. I still like them, but I think my 70s non-rotary coupe obsession is now the Mark 1 Ford Escorts. Anyway ... I love the truck. It's pretty cool.

Go ahead and start a thread on the T2 in the Gen 2 section. You chart progress, problem-solve and post photos as much as you want. I look forward to see what you do with it.

Closer.

Thank you guys for the encouragement! I'll be moving to the second gen project forum from here on out. So far this is a great community and I look forward to posting updates on my Rx7!

Good luck with the build! Car definitely looks like it can be brought back to life with some TLC.
