New member, Switching to Rotaries :D
 

Whats going on everyone. I figured id start a small intro now so i can go around the builds and start having more access to the pages and what not. I come from a 240 & FRS scene. Never had a Rotary, but its always been a dream to own a FD so i figure why not get one now with the new job. I am in no rush to buy one as to im home for 2 weeks every 4 months(i work overseas), so when i buy a FD i'd like it to be as close as to what ill be looking for. I still actually have my FRS, sadly with the FA20 being so weak, i blew the motor 2 years into owning the car. So ive got a full shell in the garage and im still debating on what ill wanna do with it. I do plan to DD the FD 3-5 days a week at least, along with 1-2 project cars on the side so i can enjoy them on weekends. Thats really all ive got to say.. Look forward to being a regular on the forums as my job is 98% of time sitting watching TV/Movies :D

I know how you feel, I've got a BRZ as my daily. I love the platform to death, but I could only deal with the motor as-stock for all of a year before I started messing with it. The lightness of the FD (and the FRS/BRZ for that matter) is great in that you don't have to add a ton of power to gain significant speed. You've got the right idea waiting for the right FD to come along, best of luck!

It took me all of 9 months before i had said no more warranty and started modding the FRS.. At one point after i blew the motor i had a 1jz almost ready to go..only needed that ridiculous PnP motec lol Sold everything for 75% off :( now im stuck with a rolling shell

How did you blow the motor in the FRS?

OP, it doesn't seem like you have financial issues but I felt inclined to warn you about the FD after your comment about the PnP Motec. I'm not sure if cost prevented you from getting one but if it did, and still would, you should pass on an FD. A stock sequential turbo FD is expensive to keep on the road and a single turbo build is even more expensive. A single turbo engine build with all the peripherals will cost you more than an installed turnkey LS swap if you want a quality setup with new parts. Availability of new parts is dwindling and driving the cost of used parts up as they are rare because of low import numbers.

I'm not trying to push you away from an FD, I'm encouraging you to do your due diligence to research the costs of owning one so you don't end up on the bad side of ownership!

My advice- Hold out and buy a nice '94 or '95 car, if you go '93 get one with a good black interior.

Well actually it was a Rocker arm that decided to "walk, aka shot through the passenger side, (i voided warrenty due to being boosted prior to this) & fast forward to late 2018 Toyota issued a Recall on this problem.. 3 years later

At the time i was financially broke, small income. With my current job i make to much for my car addiction. Being overseas 90% of the time, i plan to have the FD fully rebuilt, reliable 350-400 hp will be good for me. I plan on doing all my research prior. I have been reading the New Owner faq, all links, looking at everyones builds etc. i am in absolutely no rush to buy one until i figure out every detail, being i never owned one, and that all i was always told was they are expensive to maintain. I do appreciate your info though & as much as i love an LS swap, i want to keep the FD a 13B, fully built.

Cool, you should also keep in mind that while lots of the old thread information is still valid most posts about turbos, fuel injector types, and EMS choices are antiquated.

I haven't got to looking at turbos, fuel inectors and EMS choices yet. Im still looking over every thing overall. Its nice seeing what kind of builds there are..
