New member & early 1979 Limited Edition
Hello,
I just bought a 1979 RX7 Limited that was built in March, '79. It only has 24K original miles on it. It's in great condition, but needs a few things. I'm hoping someone might know where to get a working power antenna? As looking for a center dash vent and a couple of other little items. Thanks, Gary Seattle, WA https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...98a87f21a6.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...c16da23872.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...d27d95ad35.jpg |
Welcome Gary!! That 79 appears to be in excellent condition. To aid in finding the parts you need, I would suggest making a want to buy thread in 1st gen parts section in the classified section.
Do you know any of the car's history? That's a very nice Porsche you have there!! Any other cars in your collection? |
Replacement Mast's have been NLA for quite awhile. Using the search features to find answers can be helpful. There are a few threads related to fixing them. Normally, the motors don't fail, its the cord that extends and retracts the mast. Here is a link to a thread with some useful info. If you need the actual metal mast, you might need to find a unit from a car that's being parted. Chances are you will still need to fix it inside as this thread describes. https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generati...needed-979587/
Dash vents and other parts do show up F/S. You just need to be diligent / patient in your searching. The factory pin strips have also been NLA forever. They are kind of special, you can find more info on them along with pictuers of what they look like here. https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generati...ation-1104458/ |

You should only need 10 posts to be able to view and post in the classifieds section. I have always loved the 944's. I've owned several and currently own an 85.2 with a bunch of special order options to include the M456 suspension package and all cloth Porsche script seats. Here are a couple pics of the car from one Porsche lover to another:

There were not many records that came with it. The original/ former owner who had it forever sold it to his mechanic and retired to Arizona. I will post in the classified section as soon as I have earned enough posts to qualify.

I use www.imgur.com to host the pictures and then copy the BBCode link and paste that into the text box and then the pictures post to the thread when you submit your reply.

Beautiful car Gary. Looks like she's in great shape, especially for the age. I'm not very up to date on the SA/FB options but those wheels look pristine. Are they original?
As for your question about parts, the classifieds section is a gold mine. If you come across a really old classifieds section but interested in the parts it's always good to check when the users last active date was. If it's recent I'll usually reach out with a PM and ask if they still have the parts for sale. I've also used Rhinehart Auto for some used electronic parts over the years. You may want to reach out to them and see if they have an antenna. Banzai racing also sells used parts every once in a while and are great to work with. |

Very nice looking 944! I'm trying to post some pictures of mine, but this site won't let me. Maybe I need to earn more post credits before I can do that.
