New guys with a Frankenseven

Hello RX7Club, my son scored an '84 FB and is beyond excited about it, and so am I!
l know this forum is built on rotaries and we are getting there, but there's a catch, read on....,

We live in northwestern New Mexico and while this is predominantly 4x4 country, there's still a sports car scene. We have a problem with the 12A as it has eaten itself after breaking an apex seal and destructively modifying the rear rotor and housing. The car was a basket case when we got it in June, with the motor in the passénger seat, but it all seemed to be there (not). I also found a truckload of 13B parts in Salt Lake City and promptly did a road trip to get them.

Long story short, the rotary is not going to happen right now, but it will happen. For now we are stuffing an old Datsun motor in the car, just to get it going. My son needs to get out there and cruise with his friends and we have a solution. So, please don't flame us for putting pistons in the RX7!! We just want to share our story. I know it's an oddball but we love the car and it will certainly be unique while we figure out the rotary. The Datsun is a motor from my own teen years and is definitely enough to get him going. It happens to fit really well, except for hood clearance, mounts, oil pan, and some other small items.....we'll deal with that later and have some cool ideas.

Looking forward to getting it going for my kiddo and sharing what we do.

Thanks guys. I was unsure of how to go about this since it's an oddball motor combo. I figured it wouldn't be much different than a V8 swap.

It likely will not be much different than a V8 swap. Something different than most, and fabrication will definitely be required.
