New FD Owner from New Zealand

Hi guys,

I'm Mike, long time lurker, 1st time poster. Finally decided to join after gleaning the tech threads for the last 4 years.

I've had my 1992 Series 6 RX7 for around 4.5 years.
It started off stock standard with nothing but a boost gauge and an HKS BOV.

Since then I've pulled it apart and here is a short summary of what I'm now running:

Engine:

Bridgeported Series 8 block
Master Power GT37 Turbo
Microtech LT10s Computer.
Bigger injectors & fuel pump.

It's currently on run in tune, and is made a healthy 251kw at the rears when 1st tuned, I'll be looking for around 300kw when it gets a decent tune in it.

Wheels & Suspension:

18x9 & 18x9.5 Enkei Racing R wheels
XYZ adjustables

Body:

Factory standard Mazda Blood Red with factory Black front lip, only mod is cutting the front bumper for the intercooler.

Big time lurker is right....4 years of ownership and you're just finally registering?

Well, we're still glad you decided to step out of the shadows, Mike! Thanks for taking the time to register and welcome aboard to RX-7 Club!

I'll get around to making it look pretty some day soon.
I'll have a look to see if I have any decent engine bay pics when I get home.

Awesome spec car, what is thr spooling like on the turbo

ttpower 06-19-12 03:19 PM

Are the cars over there lhd

GASnGO fd 06-19-12 07:05 PM

giday mike, nice cars, where abouts in nz are you.

Fangin 06-20-12 02:58 PM

ttpower:
The spooling not too bad for what it is, makes 5psi at around 3000rpm, 18psi just after 7000. It is a Masterpower turbo, so I wasn't expecting the spool rate of a ball bearing turbo.

And most cars over here are RHD, with the exception of some old school American muscle cars, which have are still LHD. I believe that a recent law change has meant that all new vehicles being road registered must be RHD, but LHD vehicles registered before the law change can still retain LHD.

GASnGO, I'm located in dirty Hamilton.

Hmmm, I know of two people who have track FD's in Hamilton, you wouldn't happen to be Brent or Jason would you?

Mark (who used to go by the trading name Demon Rotorsport) built the block, I did most of the bolt on stuff, Coby did the exhaust, my brother did the wiring (he's an auto sparky), and Cartune did the run in tune.

I'll be taking it to the Green Brothers for it's final tune, as they have mountains more experience in tuning Microtech'd Rotors over Cartune.

RE: Cruises

I tend to stay from any kind of cruise these days, not a fan of the car scene over here (I'm originally from Tauranga).
Once it's run in and re tuned I plan to hit up a few open track days and set up the suspension a bit better.

For now it's just a weekend cruiser.
It needs a cert, so I've slowly been working towards that, just needs a few small things and it'll be ready.

I stopped by Brent's (with the black Pro 7 car) workshop on Friday evening, he said he knew you. From what he told me, you car sounds impressive, definitely a lot more serious than my build.

Have you upgraded your brakes at all? I can no longer run the factory 16s, as I've gone to Series 7 RS rotors and calipers, which I believe are around 330mm over the factory 285mm? I'm yet to give them a decent test on the track, but they seem more responsive than the factory S6 setup.

GASnGO fd 06-25-12 09:19 PM

yes Brents 7 should be cool when its finished,we will be following him around the country with his racing. all i have done at the present is race pads in the rear and standard in the front, soon to have hawk pads on front with slotted rotors, braided brake lines.

fooliodoolio 06-28-12 04:12 AM

nice. chrome lip looks good.

Fangin 06-28-12 02:53 PM

Thanks, these wheels are just some cheap 18s that I got second hand. Originally the centres were red :(

I'm looking to get either some ROTA MXRs in black with polished lip, or move to a white multi spoke wheel - unsure of what though.

Nismo180 06-28-12 09:46 PM

I'm no longer in contact with the owner of the blue Series 8.
And the owner of the Series 7 sold it and purchased a house recently.
