Hi everyone. I owned an RX8 back in 2004, but this is my first RX7. I purchased the car last weekend and Im waiting for delivery, which should come this week. The car is a 1992 FD RHD imported from Japan. It has 700km on the odometer, and still has plastic on the visors and door jambs. I included a few photos below. I didnt get any interior photos when the car was unlocked, but i tried to take one through the glass before i left it. I would have preferred a 5 speed, but beggars can't be choosers, and this car was in such incredible condition i couldn't pass it up. I will try to video the delivery and then post what happens when i take it to my local rotary guy here in Tampa (maztech). I remember the exact intersection where i first saw one of these in 1993, and i have been wanting one ever since. Just couldn't find one that was stock. After all these years, i finally found "the one" and had the money to make it happen.
Thanks! I bought it Saturday and I have to wait until Thursday before I get it. It feels like an eternity!!! I was debating whether I wanted to swap out the auto for a manual, but I am concerned about ruining the stock nature of the car. If the inspection reveals that the 440 miles are not original miles, then maybe I won't be as worried about doing some modifications.
Well, as they say, keep all the old parts so it can convert back. But then it is YOUR car, make it a manual if you want.
I think that's an upgrade most everyone would accept. But if its an investment you will sit on, then maybe leave it...
Does that license bracket look like its squished into the bumper?

Congrats on the purchase!!!... I was just about to ask the same thing about the front bumper. How much did you get it for if you dont mind me asking?
The bumper thing looked wierd to me, too. But when i get up close to the bumper it doesnt look like it was in an accident. It looks like the bumper was just made that way. I purchased a Japanese license plate to add to it. Should cover it up.
i paid $14k plus a 10% auction premium. The auction was mainly older collector cars, so not many people knew or cared what it was. After the auction i was outside checking out the car and people kept walking by and asking what it was. I think the Japanese badging confused people.
Once i get the car im going to take it to a specialist to see if it really has only 700km or if i got hosed. I also had it professionally appraised, and im waiting on the results. I think it is either a great deal, or im an idiot. We will see soon enough.
I agree about the bumper, but upon close inspection, it looks like this was an intended feature. Maybe a Japanese license plate thing?
I wound up paying $14k plus a 10% auction premium, for a total of $15,400.00. I think it was a steal at that price. The auction crowd had no idea what it was looking at, and I was able to steal it.

Careful on those tires if they're originals. Speaking from experience... the tread is probably hard as a rock and that turbo transition will show you just how much grip they gave up over all those years!

Thanks. New tires were put on when it was imported. After taking delivery i had to replace the dead japanese battery. Cranks up great. Had my rotary mechanic do a thorough once over on it. Tested boost, brakes, etc. Said it looked brand new. When it went up on the lift you could see how insanely clean it was underneath.
In Japan they sometimes put an oil change sticker in the inside of the door jam. If it has one, it might show the mileage at the time of the oil change. Looks like a fairly unique combination of base model with automatic.
Send me the VIN number in a PM and I will look up the manufacture date. If it is a very early car, that would be another reason to keep it as a "preservation" specimen.
I had a 1992 JDM automatic parts car, also with very low km. It was a Type X, with many added features.

You got it as cheap as you did because it's an automatic and it's RHD. Both of those are significant detractors for most people. The swap is not a trivial thing, and driving on the wrong side of the road isn't especially fun either. If it was a manual RHD car, this would have been easily double the price. LHD manual car with 400 miles on it? 4x+
I think it's a fair price, and I can't imagine what it must be like to step into a time machine like that! Enjoy it.
The licence plate bracket looks like it was installed the wrong way round. Certainly is unusual. The very low mileage is also curious. How low is the VIN? If it is something like 100050 or less, this might have been a pre-market car.
