MR2 Guy with RX7

Hello everyone,

The name is Ernesto aka Net. I am a long time first generation MR2 AW11 owner. The MR2 went out of commission for a couple of years and in that time I bought a 1986 RX7 that was pretty modified, at least compared to my mostly stock (at the time) MR2.

I finally got the MR2 going again and it took its place as my main daily driver again. The FC is now my backup car along with my 1975 Toyota FJ40.

I love older cars, less restricted, less computerized and having more character is also a nice plus. I learned to love the Rotary and I now understand the hype (for lack of a better word) behind them. I hope to gain some knowledge from the community and hope I can give my 2cents when needed. Thanks for reading.

cool

I had an 86 MR2 all black, and now have an 88 RX-7 convertible. both awesome cars. And I agree with you, older is easier to work on and tinker with.

welcome to the board. :)

it's good to see another MR2 owner that also swings rotary. :) i had a '91 Turbo for 8 years and hopefully i will be looking for another MkII Turbo in the next year or two. i love those cars.

i was into Rx-7s and rotaries long before i even imagined buying an MR2 so ironically, my biggest complaint about my MR2 was that it was too new and complicated. :D

Ah, its cool to meet other similar enthusiasts out there.

Yeah both cars a greats in their own respects. I'm sure I am not the only one whose thought of a rotary powered mr2... The biggest complaint I have about the mr2 though is the lack of space to work with when it comes to the engine bay. Also coolant problems are a nightmare with that mid-engine front radiator layout!

In terms of driving experience, the MR layout is a very unique feel. With the RX7 and I suppose other FR layouts its a much more manageable car when it is being pushed to the limits. The short wheel base makes the first gen MR2 a bit twitchy when its being pushed. But I am so accustomed to MR that its almost like second nature and driving anything else makes me feel out of place sometimes. Just some ramblings :)

I've had 3 MR2's. An 86, 91 and 93. Great fun to drive.

We should make this thread the MR2 congregation thread. :)
