Konnichi wa! From Mt. Fuji Japan
Hello,
I am an American Permanent Resident here in Gotemba, Shizuoka Prefecture on the east side of Mt Fuji Japan. My son coming on 23 is now interested in getting his fingers greasy in rebuilding an Rx7. This will be a father and Son project starting off this winter. Expect a lot of questions. We are in the process of purchasing a 96/8 E-FDS3S, however there are a few others that have peeked our interests also. We plan to completely strip down the car, rebuild with Aftermarket performance parts. new body kit and paint. We know NOTHING!!! about the rotary. but plan to remove it, strip it down, and clean it up as an educational model to wrench and learn on. The installed engine we plan to have a performance engine built. once we finalize exactly what we want. (hmm where to begin...loads of research.) Your humble neighborhood Gaijins, Glenn and Sean |
Great project!
Good luck with your project!. Keep us posted, starting with your acquisition process. Post lots of pics.....with Fuji in the background!

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...3d8fc3106.jpeg Found a nice coffee table book on the manufactures design of the RX-7. Hoping I can find a Haynes type manual next. we are still waiting on the Auto Brokers response to our request to purchase the car. I may have to drive there and talk face to face. Sorry for the delay is an appropriate “here is my car” post |
Haynes a No?
I don't recall seeing a Haynes for the FD. If you search this site (rx7club.com) you will find threads on downloading manuals, including the later Japanese ones for JDM versions after 1995.
|
OP,
If you enjoy reading, learning, and tinkering there is no greater challenge or reward than an FD. Should be a great experience. Sounds like how I got sucked back into this a 4 years ago, my son is a few years younger but it is a lot of fun learning together. If you need help finding information or stuff don't be shy to ask.

here is the Fuji speedway calendar http://www.fsw.tv/en/pdf/event.pdf . I mainly just want to avoid offending the locals and am looking for tips on getting around Tokyo. Flying in to Narita, then going to Tokyo, then Kawajima for business. |

Well, this is a business trip for some machinery purchases...so probably not a lot of personal time, at least on this first trip.

Flying in to Narita, then going to Tokyo, then Kawajima for business. i recommend getting to your hotel first and asking the hotel staff for a Tokyo travel advisory map. All the hotels have them. Second would be to contact the company that is selling the equipment. More than likely they will send a driver or taxi to assist you. customer service is a huge importance in Japan |
