I'm new here. Thinking about selling my 10AE

Hello everyone,
I'm thinking about selling my 10AE Rx-7 but I'm also looking to see if there is anyone in Colorado who actually knows about these cars. I can't find anyone who knows how to work on them. My 10AE is beautiful. She has the 10AE gold side marker badges, steering wheel and partial bra. Interior is clean but don't have the OG seats. I threw them out because they were ripped and replaced with used cloth ones. 🙄. She starts and drives but isn't on the road. Recently just got her going again after 5 years of sitting in my garage. I've owned her since 1993. Anyone in Colorado that I can hit up? Namely the Denver/Metro area.

I had the same problem where I lost my mechanic and I couldn't find anybody knowledgeable that I trusted to work on it.

My mechanic is/was an expert who specialized in rotaries. He decided to stop working on them because access to parts became problematic. He'd get it on a lift and then it might sit till he could get the part. He makes more money doing tune ups on modern cars because they leave the same day.

Ultimately I came to the conclusion, if I wanted to drive it, I would have to work on it.

Foxed.ca has the field service manual which has been a god-send for me.. . Without that, and this website, I don't know where I'd be with the car.

Welcome De'Anna, you've come to the right place. Story time!!

A few years ago I was traveling to Colorado see a friend I hadn't seen in roughly a decade, he was teaching at the academy and I had some time off so I decided to make the trip to come and see him. On a whim, I decided to look in the Colorado section of this forum and see if I could find someone in the Denver/Colorado Springs area that could help me with my car. That is where I met one of the most helpful people and best rotary friends I could ask for, right in Colorado Springs @speedjunkie . There are a metric ton of rotary folks up in your area who would be more than happy to help you out. And if you decided to sell the car, I'd be more than happy to buy it from you. Best of luck to ya!! I plan to make another trip up there in the near future, hoping to see that 10AE on the road! Cheers!

That seems to be my exact problem. My mechanic sold his garage and moved out of state. I can't do the work myself so I'll most likely put her up for sale. That for the response!

Hello... cool story. I wish i could find someone near me. Colorado Springs is still about an hour from my location. I am leaning more into selling my car because I don't want her to sit in a garage for the rest of her life. You should reach out to me when you make it out here and maybe we can make a deal. I'm in no hurry. I only want to sell to a knowledgeable buyer as I know how special my 10AE is. Seriously.. reach out to me when/ if you are in town.

Don't sell yourself short, we all start out as newbs. I'm sure you are plenty capable of turning your own wrenches to do your own routine maintenance, the same as anyone else with a desire to learn. Except for the big stuff like Axle Locknuts and the 54mm Flywheel Nut, pretty much any job can be done with regular tools such as 6-19mm sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc. Grab the 86-88 Service Manual and Wiring Diagrams from Foxed.ca and familiarize yourself with the car. The nice thing about the FC is that it was designed to be worked on by regular adult-sized hands and have the part(s) in question be in plain sight in 95% of cases.

For example, I've replaced a fuel pump in a library parking lot in about 30 minutes using only my emergency tool kit from Walmart. Flip up the hatch carpet, remove 4 phillips head screws on the Access Cover, then the 8 screws on the Pump Hangar/Sending Unit. Tackling these 8 phillips head screws is usually a chore the first time due to rust and being in place for 20+ years. But with a little patience, some PB blaster and sufficient downforce and torque (use a 1/4" ratchet handle), all 8 can usually be removed without too much trouble. I'd suggest replacing them ASAP, they are M4x0.7 thread, 15mm long. Stainless Steel hex bolts are highly recommended here to prevent future swearing. Life is too short to futz with rusty nuts.

Welcome to the forum from a fellow 10th Anniversary RX-7 owner!! I created a 10AE registry here on the forum in the 2nd gen section. Would love to add your car to the list! There aren't many of the 1500 10AE's left and its nice when another one pops up! Here's a link to the registry:

I wish you weren't so far away. I'd be happy to service and repair the car as needed for you. I have quite a few RX-7 customers and I really enjoy working on these cars!

Glad you were able to get the car up and running. My current 10AE sat for 5 years before I bought it from the original owner. It took very little to make the car roadworthy again. I would be happy to provide a list of things that you should check or replace if you'd like. You have a huge group of people here with the knowledge to help you keep your car on the road for many years to come. We can walk you through most diagnostics and repairs!
It would be a shame to sell it since you've owned it for so long.

Welcome! There's a ton of information here, like others have said. This forum has decades of archived information, basically every question has been asked and answered. So getting good with search terms will help.

If you are serious about selling the car, let me know. I've been shopping for the right FC for over a year, and I'd be willing to travel to come see it.
