I’m here to ruin another FD.
What’s up guys, recently picked up a very bare FD roller to build as my new track toy. I don’t know why, but I’ve always wanted an LS powered FD time attack car, so that’s what I’m doing. I know a lot of you will hate me and say I’m ruining the car, but just let me have my Japanese corvette damnit. Anyways, the car is a pretty straight, extremely bare roller. I’m talking it doesn’t even have hard lines, pedals, wiring, anything anymore. It’s actually much shorter to list what the car does have, and that’s; suspension, brakes, fenders, doors, hood, dash bar, steering column, rear hatch, rear bumper, and tail lights. How on earth it got to this state, I will never know. It could be cheaper to pick up a blown motor car and start there but, whatever I’m already here and I’m ready to see it through. Before I even picked up the car, I came into a very good deal on an LS3, so I knew I would need a car to put it in. Kept telling people to look out for ones for me, as well as searching frequently to find a good fit, to no avail. A few months later, a friend of mine sends me a frighteningly cheap fd roller but I’m stuck at work. Thankfully my dad was able and willing to go out there on the spot and secure it for me. I get home, not knowing what I’m getting myself into, and see this naked skeleton of a car. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...068c3cb1e.jpeg A very blank canvas indeed, and I could see the man hours this project would take, and I could feel my bank account cringing. As its holiday season, and I still have another track car I’m trying to finish, (z33), not much has been done to further the development of the FD. Currently, the motor is with a friend, who is handling refreshing it for me, and I have practically the entire Sikky Manufacturing FD catalog sitting in my living room. I have a VERY long way to go. |
Good pickup, that's a great purposed platform to start with!

Woot, more socal LS FDs!
If you need any help, feel free to ask or if you need parts / recommendations, I can certainly help you out there. Check out norotors' forum, as those guys are SUPER helpful on builds, take pictures / videos, etc! |
I'm excited for the build. I wouldn't say a baller LS3 build is 'ruining' the car per-say. The term 'ruined' is thrown around too often on social media nowadays with people hacking up fenders to fit huge wheels and have 'ruined_xxx' (car name) in their username. This type of 'ruined' I'm OK with :)

If be interested to hear more about this one. Have fun with it. |
Those wheels already ruined the car before you even touched it, so you're all good.
Congrats on the FD, welcome to the club and hurry up and finish! |
Very nice, also got a bare FD roller last week,, I actually have less parts than you so I really need help gathering parts, if you find any good sources please let me know, might need a donor car.

Welcome!!
As a wise-man just said, the greatest artist to even lived all started with a blank canvas (That wise man is me. I just pulled that outta my butt) Anyways, good luck to ya! I'm personally not a fan of LS FD's, but I can definitely appreciate them nonetheless! Have fun, and good luck...again!! |
A much bigger project than anything I could do. Congrats and I hope you will have it ready for the next season.
|
Congrats on the find! That paint looks pretty good and the body don’t look half bad! |
Good luck with the build |
Fds
Where are you guys finding all these great shells from?lol
|
...those shells came from Steve Kahn's Used cars. It's in SoCal.
He couldn't tune a car without blowing up so he started selling all ready blown up cars. Those wheels are in fact his style. |
Looks like a fun project. Hopefully it won't take years to finish the build. I have serval projects and they are all moving at a snail pace.
|
looks like a great starting point. good luck with the build
