Howdy do, Rx8 Owner here to lurk

Random posts until I can see the classifieds, long way away from buying but just want to keep an eye on prices for when/if the time comes.

You are correct, completely whiffed that thread. Stickied threads usually get ignored by me in anything other than a technical section. Apologies.

Welcome! What year and trim level is your 8? would love to see some pictures of the car when you get a chance!!

Apathetic 12-12-18 12:23 AM

Uhhh as far as i know its a Touring, I've actually never looked into it tbh lol. Might be a GT. He's a album of pictures my friend has taken of it over the years. She's currently down and out for the count atm. Finishing up the new motor in the next few days. Just gotta drain all the gas that's been sitting in there since March, hope to have her running again by Christmas. Also your vehicle list is insane, are those all currently owned?!

That is a beautiful Winning Blue 8!!! A Touring model will have the Bose sound system, homelink and moonroof, but will have cloth instead of leather. The GT adds leather and heated mirrors.

Yes, that are some of my cars. I also have an 88 RX-7 GXL, a 94 Miata, an 02 Avalon XL, and a 13 Sienna XLE. I am only allowed so many characters for my signature so I chose those.

Here are a couple pics:

Ohhh, I have a GT then, I was always under the assumption GT's have the bigger front lips but I guess not. That absolutely insane! I wish I could have so many things haha. Thankfully my lack of space has kept me to the 8, one motorcycle, my daily, and a truck to cart my dog around. And my gf is already telling me that's too many, that yearly property tax list must be quite daunting. What's your favorite of all your vehicles?

The larger lip spoiler is a dealer accessory. It was available on all trim levels of the 8. As far as a favorite..that's tough. My favorite car to drive is my black RX-8. I use it daily in the summer. The Solar Gold 80 RX-7 Leather Sport is by far the most beautiful, but I prefer other cars over it to drive. My oldest son asks me the same question and I have to tell him that I love them all in their own right and that they all make me happy to drive. The Avalon, I bought for $100 and couldn't pass it up. Its a super reliable car, its just ugly from damage. But it can be trusted at the drop of a hat as a reliable car should the need arise. My BMW is a blast to drive all around. Its very quick and pulls like a freight train. I drive the BMW daily in the colder months as it all wheel drive. I drive it in the summer as well here and there. I actually jut replaced the clutch in it. Was not a fun job what so ever. The trans and transfer case were massive and there was not a lot of working room:

Mazdaverx713b My god, I imagine that Beamer job would have made you even more upset if it wasn't on a lift. Just curious is that your shop or do you work for a dealer/private owner? I had no idea you're collection was so massive. Your Solar Gold FB is a definite eye catcher. I don't know how you're able to keep up with all of their cleaning, building, and maintenance. Serious dedication.

The clutch job on the BMW would have been impossible without a lift. I did this at a Toyota dealership I work at. I do a lot of side work in the summer but I commonly take the winter off to focus on my cars. The Solar Gold 80 is a beautiful car. Amazing sentimental story behind the car. Long story short, it was the first RX-7 that I ever laid my eyes on as a child. I saw it every time my mom would take me up to get groceries. It belonged to the pharmacist at the grocery store. I went and looked at the car every time we went. I befriended the pharmacist as an adult and maintained the car for him for about 10 years and then last summer he gave me the car as a gift. The car means a lot to me as he bought the car new and loved and cherished it for 37 years. It takes a lot to keep up with all of the cars to be honest. I work two jobs, have a wife and 6 kids, and I still have to find time to maintain all of my cars. But I suppose its a labor of love to be honest.

6 kids?! My god, 6 kids, 2 jobs, endless cars, are you a robot or do you just not need sleep? That's actually astonishing you're able to keep up with so much, I'm done complaining about a lack of time for at least the rest of the year. Oof, that's a suuuuper tight fit for that trans thank god you have the hookups on the lift. If the guy that sold you that avalon has any other running toyotas he wants off his hands for $100 I'd be more than happy to help them out. My beater truck is a 94 4runner that still runs like a top and I love that thing. That's a real touching story about that 7 tho, sounds like one of those cars that stays in the family for generations and generations. I'm sure I'll feel the same way about my 8, I'm always looking for another sports car but so far nothing with 4 wheels puts a smile on my face as easily as my 8 does.

mazdaverx713b 12-16-18 07:06 AM

I have to say that I absolutely love my 8's. Driving them makes me happy and they are one of the best cars that I've had the pleasure of driving. I completely understand what you mean. I don't have a lot of free time with the amount that I take on. Its a tough way to go but I've done it for so long that I guess I'm used to it.

The 4Runner is an excellent vehicle. They will run forever if maintained properly and in that generation you could get them with a manual transmission. The guy that sold me the Avalon is a co-worker and a super nice older gentleman. His father in law bought the car new and they've had it in their family for the 250k miles that are on it. The car still runs perfectly and is super smooth. Its a little beat up body wise but it runs and drives well. I use it for a spare car, so it doesn't get driven a whole lot. I rotate between the BMW, RX-8, and the MR2 Spyder as daily drivers. When the weather turns only the BMW remains alongside the Avalon for a driving rotation. Though it was nice enough outside yesterday that I was able to take the Spyder on a drive. Its also an amazing car to drive. If you ever get the chance to drive one, don't pass it up.
