hi ya, from N.California

Newbie member here. Trying to get info about 1993 RX7. My brother's estate has a non-running vehicle. He parked it about 6 years back when he started having health issues. Engine was overhauled in 2005 at about 175k miles. When he parked it last service invoice shows 184k miles on it. The color of the car is banana yellow. See you all.

Welcome to the board! I’m a freshblood looking to learn more about these beautiful cars, too. I’m glad to see rx7s with mileage like that. If ya get a chance, It’d be awesome to see some pics.

That looks wicked! Interesting looking hood. Does it start?

ediamiam 06-08-19 10:56 AM

I haven't tried to start it. Battery is dead. It's been parked for 6 years but was running when he last drove it. I understand there's a procedure for trying to revive it but I won't try it. If it was a regular piston engine, I know what I would do but I'm not familiar with rotaries. I also understand he's had significant aftermarket work done to the the engine so I would leave that up to a professional to assess or the next owner. For a car with about 185k miles, the paint and interior are in very good condition. He liked to drive it and drive it fast, so it's got a lot of freeway miles. I didn't want to roll it out of the garage and since it's in a single stall in the condo unit, pictures are limited to 'close up' and this front end shot.

Looks like a beautiful FD!!! Yellow is my favorite FD color, specifically Competition Yellow Mica. Was the an original CYM car? What are your plans for the car?

ediamiam 06-09-19 10:33 PM

It's the original color. I drove the car 10-15 years ago and it's much to fast for me and family has no interest. I'm here on this site to get a feel for the kinds of mods he may have had done to it. I'll put up a posting eventually to ask what the success stories are of people who have revived the engine after sitting for a few years. Also looking to get an evaluation of the kind of interest there is in the car and valuations of the car in a non-running state. And who works on these cars in N.California. I know it's been in at least one accident, I believe in the rear and front bumper I suspect. Obviously the hood is not stock. The car has always been garaged and I would rate the paint as minimally very good and maybe a couple of small nicks but no door dings that I could tell. The seats are covered in sheepskin and the interior in general is very good. This was my brother's 3rd RX7 so he took pretty good care of it and had it serviced on a regular basis.

Are you not planning on keeping it?

ediamiam 06-10-19 12:26 AM

I thought about it but like I posted earlier, it's too fast for me. I'm at the point in life where I recognize I have declining motor skills. I also have an old '67 912 Porsche that I really don't drive anymore, so I'm looking to unload that at some point. But the RX7 is in my brother's estate, so the consideration is what will it take to get it running vs selling as a project car. I'm not sure I have the energy to get into a project like this knowing I wouldn't be driving it. Some people who knew my brother indicated interest in the car but from what I've seen of that pricing database, the offers were quite insulting.

When you ste able to get more pictures of the car I would love to see them!

ediamiam 06-10-19 12:24 PM

So, I just noticed that this particular car doesn't have the popup headlights. It has that clear plastic where the top of the painted popup would be and you can clearly see the lamps underneath. Anybody familiar with this? Does it give better light at night? I know it would be slightly more streamlined. Is that a plus or a big negative?

ediamiam 06-10-19 12:30 PM

Don't really have any great pics of it sitting outside in the sun as I would have to push it out of the garage. Interior is a bit dirty and dusty, needs to be detailed as well as the exterior. He left the rear hatch open while it was in the garage and it is a bit dusty inside I have some closer shots since I'm working within the confines of that tight space. But they all kind of look the same anyway. The rear deck does have that small spoiler on it.

Never personally used the non oem lights. Always loved the original lights personally. Its a matter of taste I suppose. Its still one beautiful car and is my dream 7 to be honest. A 93 CYM is just IT for me, lol. One day soon I'll sell a few cars and buy one. Super glad to see that your brother took good care of the car. I would personally restore it back to its original condition and enjoy the car on nice days if it were mine. I take my sons on trips in my 7's and they really enjoy the experience. Even bought my oldest son his very own 88 RX-7 GXL!

ediamiam 06-10-19 04:14 PM

IF it were to be kept, it would definitely get restored to original but that's probably not going to happen. He took care of it but when he parked it, he didn't do it right. Should have used fuel stabilizer in the tank and a battery tender. Then it could have been started up periodically just to keep the juices flowing. He did have battery chargers in the garage so he may have been prone to charge it up periodically and run it, but that is just conjecture. But with old knees and such, it would have been a burden just to get into the car for those purposes. I suspect those headlights may have given him better night visibility such that he wouldn't outrun his headlights but that is conjecture. I know that he did complain about oncoming cars with bright lights as the car does sit lower to the ground.
