Hi, I'm Joe
Hey everyone,, i know i have a 5 year thing, but really im new, i joined back in march of 07 when i bought my first FB. i got the car for $85 and it had a bad rotor. I got a new engine for $200 from a junkyard. During the swap i was having fuel issues, and through the help of the fine members in this forum, i was able to get it running great.
Unfortunately about 4 months after i got the car working, an oil leak formed and was running down to the exhaust manifold. After i got to work one morning, i noticed an unusual amount of smoke when i parked. i was already running late and i didn't think it was much of a problem. 15 minutes after i parked i heard firetruck sirens. Again, i didn't think anything of it. after 5 minutes of the sirens i realized something, and my heart sank to the pit of my stomach. I opened the roll up door, hoping that it wasn't true, "it was only a little smoke, surely not enough to catch fire" i thought. the door opened past my eyes and sure enough.. it was my beautiful 1980 Rx7... the firemen had crowbars on the front of the her, trying to pry the hood open to douse the flames. I yelled at them to stop and told them the latch was at the back. told them the hood release was on the left of the steering wheel dangling just in front of the clutch. he said it had melted... my stomach churned as i watched them yank and force open the hood. 10 minutes later the flames were out.
My clean, straight, vibrant red Rx7 looked disfigured and disheveled. i looked at the engine, all the hoses, wires, and plastic were melted beyond recognition. i sat in her for what seemed like hours cursing that i ignored my baser instincts. i should have known better than to put my job before my love. i looked around the interior, it wasn't too bad. Apart from the dash melting near the vents, the inside was spotless. i looked down at the hood release. it was untouched. i pulled the handle. it worked. all the linkage was undamaged. he lied to me. she sat in my garage for the next few weeks being picked at by vultures. the only comfort i could see was that she would live on in other Rx7's.
sorry, i didn't mean for this to turn into a story.. just got carried away, but ya 5 years later i bought a 91 FC and she was recently rebuilt and is not leaking oil, drove straight and true without problems from Sacrament to Reno then to Seattle. and now im back on the forms again :D
