Hey guys, My names Elijah Sipe and I'm a car enthusiast from California. I've always been interested in cars even at a young age. I've had many different phases, I used to like muscle cars, then I liked European cars, and now I'm in a Japanese car phase. I've always liked RX7's especially the FD but I never really considered getting one until recently when I met a guy with a Rocket Bunny FD ever since then I've been OBSESSED with the FD and I think I've found a good one but I'm no mechanic so I wanted to seek help from people who know a lot about the platform before I pull the trigger and buy it and I thought that this would be the best place to start.

Yea, its a 1993 RX7 FD its a rolling shell. Its only 3-5 miles from my house but I want to make sure that people who know a lot about RX7's think it'll be a smart decision before I buy it. Thanks for welcoming me to the Forum btw :).

I strongly suggest you buy the most complete, best condition car you can find. The interior bits alone can wipe out any savings you might start out with. I got a good deal, but the interior plastics were mostly brittle and useless. Some of the ABS you can repair. The PP stuff is another story unless you can plastic weld?

Another factor is there are so many proprietary FD clips and fasteners on these cars that you will want to start out with all of them. So much isn't available anymore. One small example is the tail lights. There is a long screw with a thread gap in the middle of the screw. My car was missing one. I couldn't source it! I had to tig weld 2 screws together to match what I needed. There are a ton of specialized FD brackets all over the car. You'll go broke and insane trying to find them all.

I suggest buying a car that at least runs. That way you can determine if it needs a complete suspension overhaul, if the gauges work, if the brakes work, abs, what electrical components are shot, etc... Right now you have no idea and are in no position to negotiate a fair price.

I do enjoy a challenge and a big puzzle. I've got my car pretty well sorted after 4 years and it is a fun car. But I've seen too many guys buy a cheap FD, start buying up the fun accessories like wheels and carbon bits. Then realize that for example the wiring is screwed on every level. They give up and take a big loss.
