Hello from VA
 

Hello everyone my name is Matt, I'm from the Richmond, VA area, I recently picked up a third gen with a couple mods. I am looking to track the car and just over all enjoy it. Actually I am not sure the requirements to be able to post a tech question. If anybody could help explain what I have to do to be able to post I would appreciate it. I did read the welcome to forum sticky but am newer to forum use, Thanks in advance for understanding and any help given and I am sorry if I violated any of the rules in my introduction post.

They are screened(like the Intro's) for content,so if it shows it is approved,If not then it did not meet the criteria.
Remember a lot of stuff has been documented already and posted in threads,so for that we ask that you do some searching for info before you post a question frequently asked..like "why won't my car start?"..

FD's are great track cars right out of the box. Their achilles heel is overheating and detonation. Overheating will melt the O rings between the housings and detonation will blow the apex seals. Overheating can be kept in check by performing some simple mods, such as upgrading the stock radiator. Search the forum for realiability mods. Detonation can be cured by not making too many mods to the intake and exhaust which leans out the air/fuel mix.

Luckily, you're close to a great track- VIR. Sign up with any of the clubs that run there and they'll teach you everything you need to know.

Hey Matt, welcome to the rotary family. There's a lot to learn and you need to know before successfully tracking a rotary, especially an FD, but 99% of this information is conveniently on this forum. Once you get it right, there will hardly be a car out there that will run the laptimes you will be able to run. To get started, shoot ptrhahn a message. He is a local in VA and seriously tracks his FD with the twins setup, makes something short of 400 rwhp on twins which is nothing short of amazing. This guy knows it all when it comes to tracking the FD with twins.

I'm located in Lynchburg, about 2 hours south of you and another good member is Fritz who is arguably the fastest FD driver on the east coast and he's located in Charlottesville. Also, print out the Factory Service Manual (can't find the link at the moment, but just google FSM for 93 rx7) and take it to Staples (or similar place) and have them put it in a binder. It has detailed info on every nut and bolt for the car, best of luck :icon_tup:
