Hello from Scotland ('99 RS)

Hi folks,

My name is Kerr and I stepped into my FD last August after having it imported from Japan.
It was a completely standard 1999 Type-RS in brilliant black.

I love the standard external appearance of the late spec FDs, so I don't have much planned other than maybe trying to get hold of some OEM mudguards and sphats.

Luckily it has healthy compression, and the paint work is remarkably good for a 17 year old car so I'm really pleased with my gamble!

I've not been able to do as much as I had intended over the past few months as I left my job to start a PhD... but I did manage a few things:

Apexi FC ECU + map from a trusted specialist down in England; MeisterR Zeta CRD coilovers plus geometry and corner balancing; HKS twin power; and the standard looking twin pipe Racing Beat exhaust.

I have a 3" downpipe and resonated mid pipe sitting ready too, but I need to wait for some more money before porting the stock turbo's wastegate, switching to 850cc primaries, fuel pump upgrade and adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Probably going to have to wait till next year for all that!

Just enjoying driving it for now! It had only done about 48k miles (~80k km) in Japan, and I've already subjected it to over 5k miles here in the UK.

It did the North Coast 500 last September, which is a route round the outer perimeter of Scotland's coastline north of Inverness. Picture below from the Applecross Pass; possibly the best driving road in Scotland [if not the UK!]. The NC500 is apparently our answer to Route 66 :P

And recently did my first trackday in the FD at Rockingham Speedway, which is just north of London.

Definitely a step up from my old RX-8, which will hopefully push my driving skills on a bit!

If you've made it this far, you've done well :icon_tup:

This should be a fine example of "what should I do to my car to make it reliable"?

NOTHING!!..Drive it!

Welcome to the Club man...Drive that car..Drive it!

Welcome to the club! You have a beautiful example of a car! I too really enjoy the later model FD's with the 99' spec front bumper and the wonderful set of wheels that compliment these cars so well. Nice find!

Welcome to the club man. Your car is awesome. Can you post some interior pics? I wish we had those kind of driving events here in the States (NC500).

I've not got access to my main horde of pictures at the moment, but here is one interior shot for now.

Only thing that isn't stock at the moment is the ugly early 2000's style Alpine stereo unit.

Everything is in mint condition; no wear on the drivers seat bolsters, or wheel. It has the "back seats" finished in a form of leather (not sure if it's real or not...?).

I guess the Japanese person that had it before me really looked after it well!

Recently purchased a passenger footrest (not shown in the above pic) from a Type RZ just because I like shiny bits
