Hello from Germany

Hi everybody.

I'm new at the forum and I think it's time to introduce myself.
I'm 28 years old, live in the north of Germany and be a owner of a 1996 rhd FD since two weeks.
The car is in oem condition right now apart from the 99 spec bumper, a Blitz turbo timer and an Jasma exhaust.
Unfortunately there is no really good RX7 Forum in Europe, so I'm glad to be here

Best regards

Welcome!

How difficult was it to find an FD in Germany?
Pretty rare? Or would your see 9-10 just driving around?

psyposa 11-23-16 03:01 PM

Hi.

It was a little bit tricky to find a FD that matches to my requirements. I was looking for over one year until I bought mine now.
There are not many FDs in Germany. I think it's only 70-80 cars that's on the road.
Last year, only 8-10 FDs are for sale at the same time.

T.Seuf 11-23-16 10:55 PM

I'm in Canada, and we have about 10 or so for sale at any given time on the most popular free classifieds, maybe 6-7 on the paid classifieds. Catch is we have Left hand drive (Canadian versions), maybe 30-50%, the others are Right hand drive imports from Japan.

And like you, depending how picky you are,m you might be waiting for one to come up, then possible bidding wars or multiple buyers want the right one!

psyposa 11-24-16 06:40 AM

What? That's really little for Canada. I tought there were more FDs.
Do you have one again now?

I'm very lucky, because no one else wanted the car at the time I saw it :D

First I wanted to import one form Japan, but surging prices made it impossible for me.

T.Seuf 11-24-16 11:25 AM

I now have a domestic LHD. First JDM was reasonably priced to import early 2014. I stated to see the beginning of surging prices when I wanted to import a 99+ In early 2015.

psyposa 11-28-16 01:06 AM

I saw pics from your yellow FD. Really nice.
Now I'm waiting for my Defined Autoworks V-Mount. So excited :D

Hi and welcome. Nice to se other European owners here. I have found two other usable forums apart from this: fduk.org and fdrx7.com.

I got my FD from Germany. Its a EU-spec 94 mod, and one of the 42 94/95 models sold in Germany (passenger airbags came in 94). Germany was the country in Europe who sold most of them, with 447 cars from 92 until 96 (late 95 model sales). The total EU number is 1152.

psyposa 11-29-16 12:06 AM

Hi.
Thanks for the other Forum links.

Nice to see that German models be imported to other countries. It's possible that Germany sold most of them, would be nice to know how many of them on the road now. 1152 is a lot for Europe.
I only know 40 RX-7 german owners and many of them own a SA or FC.

I was just in Germany. Trying to learn the language and eventually move there! I was not even aware there was rotary cars were imported there of still around! Very cool! Do you have pictures of it?

psyposa 12-06-16 01:06 PM

Okay, here's the deal: I'll teach you in german and you'll teach me in englisch :D
Just joking ;)

When you were in Germany and where?
Yes, here are a lot of imported japanese cars. So many Evos and Skylines and a few rotarys as well.

welcome, your car looks like it is in good condition

psyposa 12-06-16 02:59 PM

Thanks, yes it's okay I would say.
The paint needs to be polish but the engine had no issues at the 1.000km long way home.

What are the import laws in Germany for RHD cars? I was born in Hessen but my family moved to Canada when I was eight. I plan on moving back when I have the money and am curious about importing cars.

That depends on what car you'll import. Especially at FD's you can't license models build after 1996, because of the emission laws.
I know that there are a few '96+ FD's licensed in Germany, but there license is only half legal. I think they cheated a lil bit to get the cars on the road.

After the import, you have to modifiy a few things like the front lights (for left-hand traffic), retrofit a rear fog lamp and other stuff. After this you have to present the car at the association for technical inspection. You can planning round about $2K for all that stuff.

I'm so glad that I bought the car in Germany after it was imported from another one.
Otherwise you can assign a import company to get the car to Germany. In this case it's a lil bit easier for you and you don't have the stress.

Welcome, I'm frequently in Bavaria and although I've seen some newer Mazda's around I thought the RX-7 didn't exist in Germany. Its cool to see that there is small fan base for them there. Also your car looks very clean :icon_tup:

psyposa 12-07-16 02:42 AM

It's really rare here. For every RX-7, there are 10 Skylines.
But after I joined the rotary scene, it's amazing zu see how many FD's actual on the road. A lot more as I thought.

Amazing how many of you were in Germany already :icon_tup:

That's great! I'll take a look at your shop later.
I was born only 180km away from Schwerin :drool1:

The upcoming mods are a V-Mount, vacuum job, 99 spec wing, racing thermostat, battery relocation and a few other things.

Yeah that's too bad! Is your car only for 3 weeks in the US or do you leave it there when you come back to Germany?
