New member to the forum!
Hi everyone,
New member to the forum even though I've been reading the forum from time to time and have been really helpful through some of my FD issues. My first Wankel was a 88 convertible which we started to modify and took it to the track in Sacramento back in the mid to late 90's. Worked on it so much that I've gone through 5 trannies when I owned it. Now I have a 93 FD that a good friend of mine sold it to me and I'm trying to fix it to get it up and running of how it should be running.
At the moment, I'm looking for a shop to take it in or get a baseline quote for an engine rebuild but I can't seem to find a shop near me that won't leave me broke! I'm on a low budget and I can do some of the work if there's a proper direction on how to do it. I live on the north tip of California and the bay is a little pricey for repairs. I don't mind the drive. There was a guy that lives in Santa Cruz area but couldn't find his info.
I should've joined to forum many years ago but just didn't get around to it. Better late than never right!

Thank you mazdaverx713! Appreciate the warm welcome and yeah, she would really buffed out nice. She didn't look like that before when I got her.
Little history of red. My long time friend bought her from one of his clients in Carmel Valley. He said it was just sitting there for years collecting atmospheric debris. He asked the owner what's wrong with it, the owner said it wouldn't start so he left it sitting there. My friend owns a 91 300 Z, he decided to try and have an FD for his collection and bought it as a roller. He was able to fix the starting issue but every time he drives it, it keeps adding water/coolant, due to the water temp keeps on getting hot and running dry (Add coolant light keeps buzzing). After having twins a year after, he didn't have the time to work on the car so it had been sitting in his garage for 7 years, untouched!
When he decided to give up the car due to having no time to tinker with it, the car ended up in my lap and I bought it for the same price of what he payed for it. I had a 88 convertible with a T2 engine with mild mods back in the mid 90's where the import scene was still really young and in the experiment stages. Adam Surawatari's RX7 inspired me to pick up an RX7. It was like falling in love all over again!
Red was having a hard time starting, had a rough idle once she starts and runs out of coolant after driving her for a few minutes. Too much coolant back pressure that it just gush over the reservoir thank. There was a good calcium buildup around the waterpump housing so I had to take it out, replaced the radiator since it was cracked, radiator house, the low coolant sensor was cut due to old age. I would've just taken her to the shop but I'm on a low budget and love working on these cars. I know that there's a vacuum leak somewhere and now, her seals needs to be replaced but I have a feeling that she will need a rebuild but had to make sure so I took her to Rick's last week for confirmation and I was right! But wasn't expecting the cost to be too high! ... Now, I'll have to try to take the engine out myself. Pics of when I received Red, when I opened her up to clean all the calcium deposit and painted the white sanded down bumper.
I bet some of you guys here have or had gone through the same thing as I have and any feedback and suggestions is really appreciated! I think I've only order a few parts from Atkins and I need a reputable mechanic that won't break my bank! lol...
