Engineering Student new to Rotarys

Howdy all!

I'm a long time lurker, but finally getting a few cars myself. I've owned an RX8 ever since my last car died, and recently picked up an RX7 FC Convertible for scrap value, that I'm actually selling due to a blown rotor and no place to pull the engine. New to the rotary thing, but as a mechanical engineering student, it's absolutely fascinating, and I love the way they drive. Looking forward to seeing all that everyone has to share! This place has been a godsend for both of my cars, so thank you all!

My rebel child... This one is getting sold and I'll be purchasing one that isn't so troublesome.

Not sure how this got here, was supposed to end up in the New Member's section. Can a mod delete this or move it? I just finally got access to this area, so it's a bit weird it would show up here.

Welcome!! I moved this thread back for you and approved your for sale thread for the convertible. I love the Mazda accessory wheels on the RX-8 as well as the accessory center caps. I bought a set of the center caps from the dealer for my 8 when I bought it. Would love to see more pictures of your cars! Welcome to the forum!

i moved it to the classifieds due to the for sale listing. no "for sale" in the intro.

I totally get the fascination with the Wankel, as a fellow engineering student. I didn't realize how much I liked cars until I really started diving into different engine types, and now here I am. I'm constantly updating my future build in my head :)

I graduate with my Bachelor's in Electro-Mechanical in the fall, and I'm taking the Mechanical FE in August. Good luck to you in your schooling!

Good luck to you with that test, it really is a monster. That being said I took it after I had been out of school for 5 years so none of the material was overly fresh to me. Having an engineering background definitely helps with FD ownership, or at least has helped me. I look at the car as an engineered system, where for every change there is a resulting effect that must be accounted for. When you don't consider or account for all of the factors within the mechanical fluid/pressure systems across the vehicle (coolant, oil, mechanical rotating, turbo/boost/intake, etc) you'll never have a car/system that functions anywhere near as well as the one designed by the Mazda engineers who did account for all of those factors.
