Hey folks I'm in the market for an FD and have been browsing some of the threads here about pricing and decided to join and hopefully get some advice about buying my first FD. I am looking for a base or R1/R2 (I don't want the sunroof) and prefer a car that isn't red but if the right car comes along in red I wouldn't turn away from it. Mileage is not as big of a concern as condition is and I am ok with tasteful mods but would like a car with stock body and interior. I currently have 25k to spend and that will grow as i save more. With that said my questions are:

1: What should I expect to pay for a good driver car? I don't want a collector car, I plan to enjoy driving this car.

2: Does this car seem reasonable?

I'm fairly new to rotaries as well, so I can't answer number 2 very well, but...

1. The price range sounds reasonable to find one based on the price you listed, it's usually a waiting game, while hunting every possible forum & avenue that could have an FD pop up.
3. If you have a friend out of state you can trust, or know someone who can check out the car, out of state opens your options. I actually just purchased a car from Orlando, and had it shipped back to Albuquerque after my friend inspected and drove the vehicle. I had some difficulty finding an FD in the NM/CO region.

lol yea there is nothing around here. i did talk to a guy in farmington nm about a black base model with 200k miles but that car disappeared before i could get home from work. unfortunately i dont know anyone in florida but the seller did send some really good photos and videos of the car running on the dyno along with some short clips showing the underbody of the car and it looks clean. i am thinking unless i find something better and closer to home here soon i am going to pursue that car.

Welcome!! You'll find a lot of info here. My best advice it to buy the cleanest example that you can afford. I have gone several states for clean cars. Don't limit yourself to your own state. Sometimes you do have to travel to get what you want.

Thats what I was thinking as well so it is nice to hear that from someone with more experience buying these cars.

I recently drove to Pennsylvania form Ohio to buy another 10th Anniversary RX-7 to restore. It wasn't the most convenient thing to do, but I had to have the car and I knew that I had to make the journey. Getting home with a new car is always an amazing feeling and experience!

Nice that's where I am right now. After contacting the owner of the car I linked in my OP and getting a bunch of photos and videos of the car including the underside of the car I think this is the right car. it has a fresh engine build from Kilo Racing, factory body with no signs of damage or rust that i can see in the photos, and the interior looks clean. I will need to take care of a few things but nothing that seems too bad. I will need to fix the passenger door handle, the Tachometer, and rebuild the precision 67/66 journal bearing turbo. The turbo is easy to rebuild and the kit is cheap, and the rest is something I can figure out at a more leisurely time. As long as I don't find anything else when I get there this looks like the best car available that I have seen in a while.

Luckily, the clusters on the FD aren't exactly a single piece, but interchangeable smaller pieces. So if it is an electrical issue (had this one with the speedo in my car), could be as easy as just replacing the tach piece in the cluster.

soooo.... turns out it has a salvage title. oh well back to looking.

Welcome to the forums! Shame about the salvage title, I love that color on these cars. You'll find the right one in time! I've seen some great listings in the forums classifieds.

ouch they left out the title status? and she's local :eek:

yea I found a few including the 95 base here in the classifieds but folks seemed to get scared away when I tell them I am financing the car. It's actually starting to get frustrating.

yea I was about to put a deposit on the car when I remembered to check the title history.
