Childhood dream, now reality

Like many here, the FD RX-7 was my childhood dream car. At 12-13 years old, I'd ride my bike all around town to the few local FDs I knew of just for the chance that the owner would be outside and I could talk to them. I spent every waking moment reading this forum to learn as much as possible about this car I loved. I was completely obsessed. My dream was a Silver Stone 94 or 95 R2, but knowing there fewer than 100 examples the US, I would be content with other trims or color combos (well...except for one :) ). This dream came to a slow and painful ending once I was 16 and began to shop for one. I was faced with the harsh reality of the overall condition of local used FDs being less than desirable and had to accept the fact that this isn't a car suited for a teenager. To say I was crushed would be an understatement.
Fast forward to last month with the birth of my nephew. My brother and I joked that he and my future son(s) may not get a chance to experience the awesome 90s sports cars we grew up on. Now in my 30s having achieved success in my career and the resources necessary to properly own an FD, I knew it was time. The search was short and sweet...less than 24 hours had passed from when I decided to buy one to signing a purchase agreement. I had found exactly what I was dreaming of over half a lifetime ago: An immaculate, stock* 1994 Silver Stone RX-7 R2 with 31K miles. I cried leaving the bank after wiring the funds for it, and dare I say I'm holding back tears as I type this now. Photos below, taken by the dealer as it will be a few more weeks until the car is here with me in CA. *The car is mostly stock. It has a PFS cat-back, downpipe (can't confirm which, but I'll assume it's PFS as well), aluminum AST, and an AutoMeter boost gauge. I'll be replacing the exhaust with one of my choosing and I have a Defi on its way to replace the AutoMeter, but make no mistake...this car will remain factory, for the most part. Parts will either be OEM from later FDs or only the best aftermarket with no expense spared. This car will absolutely be a garage queen and I have no qualms about it. |

I got a similar gem sitting in my garage ;) 1994 euro spec. They only made 211 in 94 and 95 :D Problem is i want another one that i can mod, since mine is so pristine i dont dare do to much. Ideally, 4 RX7s is enough: The one i got, a CYM, a Spirit-R, and one i can have fun modding. |

Beautiful car! I'm in a similar situation. I'm 29 and trying to find "the one" -- though most I have located in my area are a bit haggard. I'm holding out for a red R1!

Your story sounds similar to me! I am 36 and I had FB’s for my first three cars. Now I can finally afford an FD so I am on the lookout for the right one. I always dreamed of owning one, and I think it is finally the right time for me. The problem is finding the right one to buy. Since I’m in California also I am not looking for one that is heavily modified since I have to deal with CARB/registration. Your car looks so clean! She looks beautiful! Congrats man! agree with no mods, but i would still do the reliability mods, like efini downpipe (reduced engine temps) and replace the AST: start here,
