Basket Case CYM

Hi everyone, new guy here from Georgia. My main background is Subarus; I've owned several over the years, and about a year ago had the opportunity to buy a 1993 CYM from a buddy and have been slowly working towards restoring it. I knew it needed some work when I got it, but wasnt quite mentally prepared for what all was wrong with it. In 2017 it was in SEMA for some car audio or dashcam company then made into a life size version of a Jada Toys die cast model. Currently its about to the point of going into the body shop to get all the previously poorly done work corrected and a fresh new coat of paint all around. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.
Looking forward to learning about this chassis and all things rotary! That red door was never even sanded, just painted right over it. Attachment 744817 Attachment 744818 Attachment 744819 Attachment 744820 Attachment 744821 |
Welcome!!! You're definitely doing right by the car and it will be great tonsee a restoration thread on the car in the 3rd gen section!! Do you know any other past history of the car prior to it becoming a car audio model?

I have absolutely zero history on the car aside from it being bought in northern California then being in Las Vegas for several years with my buddy. Driver side was definitely hit or side swiped, door and rear quarter has been replaced. There also appears to be a hit on the front passenger fender/bumper area, not sure if those are related to one accident or two different ones.
Also no history on the motor or maintenance on it. I was told it was running rough when I bought it so it was already partially torn down. Motor will be getting a full refresh and very likely mods to go with it. |

It does seem to have led a rough life. I think you're going in the right direction with the car and doing a great job thus far!

Oh man, you have quite the project ahead of you. I just tore down the engine on my CYM and it's far from perfect. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.
