Air Force member from Guam

Sup y'all. I am currently in the Air force and stationed in Guam. I am a soon-to-be 1993 RX7 FD3S owner. Its going to get repainted and when it is done i will get pics for you. I can't decide what color to paint it though. Its either a solid black, solid white, or a two tone with black on top and white on bottom, then when i get my body kit, the body kit pieces will get painted black, and the Carbon Fiber hood/hatch should make it look better. LMK what you think. I definitely plan on turning this into a show car.

Does anyone know where i can get discounts?
Once again, im glad to be welcomed into the greatest club.........EVER hahaha. Does anyone know about any japanese RX7 websites that have cheap parts. I live in guam....a couple hundred miles (feel free to correct me) from japan so shipping will be cake.

Guam....thats gotta be ruff lol. Im stationed at Dyess with the B-1. Im a MX officer, what do you do in the Great AF?

blizzaga 08-30-09 02:15 PM

Aye dude! HAFA ADAI! I was raised in Guam and moved to San Francisco about a year ago. Damn I miss the beaches! Where'd you get the FD? Local? And from who? There are only 4 FD's there that I know of and there's a black FD around who is in the military, I think Army. And ahh so awesome how you can tint your front windshield. Can't do that in the states. Which shop are you getting it painted from? There's this shop that really sucks (Forget the name but if I hear it I'll remember it)...hopefully you didn't go there.
Oh man, and I really hope you can work on the FD yourself...ABSOLUTELY no one there knows their shit on rotaries...and many will claim that they do. With the support of the forum here you'll do good. Like many will say...SEARCH and you will find. Ask if you REALLY don't know and listen to the people who know their stuff (you'll be able to tell).
Ok I'll stop from there...as for websites that are cheap...don't know what cheap to you is but here are some...

www.rx7.com
www.rx7store.net
www.racingbeat.com
www.rotaryshack.com
http://www.pettitracing.com/

Shipping WILL kill you. I know. But thats the price you'll pay for paradise right? :icon_tup:

Good luck...and since your in Guam I absolutely suggest you replace the AST (Air Separator Tank) and upgrade your radiator to a Fluidyine before you do anything. Heck I'd do it before I get it painted since it's a must since your in such a humid/hot place but from what I read it looks as though it's already in the shop. BTW you can find the AST and radiator at those websites I posted.

Post pics up! Wanna see your pride and Joy when you get it back.

lol you haven't seen me drink then blizzaga, then again, AGE troops are fairly known for drinking bars dry :D

dreed7235 08-31-09 11:05 AM

You are an AGE troop too. Im the AGE Flt/CC here at Dyess AFB TX. Sweet!! I have been talking to Steve Kan who is a freakin Genius on Rotaries. kantuning.com is his Q&A forum.

thatpoorguy 08-31-09 11:16 AM

nice, haven't been there or to the site, i've always used banzai or rotary performance. i'm a lowly SrA with my guard unit out of carswell, but doing the contracting funds the car lol. as a contractor i do AGE for the predator over here in the sandbox

Hey I'm actually in the Navy. Guam is one of the locations I might get stationed at. What are the conditions over there for a RX7 owner? Are the roads any good? I would love to take my car with me, but if the road conditions are bad I might think twice about it, and do you have any difficulty in having parts delivered to you out there in the Pacific.

blizzaga 09-01-09 12:19 AM

No matter what the locals say...the roads are freaggin nice! Some areas with potholes and such. Even when I lived there I thought the roads were bad but dang...when I came out here (san francisco in particular) it's way worse...I'd say it's due to the earthquakes:dunno:
In general the roads are really good though. Try to live down south...KILLER twisty roads, I'd say better than the Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina but the Tail is much longer. Temps are what kills you though. Average of 85 degree. It's really the humidity that kills. I'll try to see if I have pics of the roads.

EDIT: Shipping kills...but I really don't know what you would call expensive. Some people may say it's expensive but I just got used to shipping prices in Guam and now when I ship local here it's super cheap in my eyes.

"Guam....thats gotta be ruff lol. Im stationed at Dyess with the B-1. Im a MX officer, what do you do in the Great AF? "

Im Electrical and Environmental backshop....there's no planes assigned here, so its pretty much impossible for me to get my 5 level. Im trying to become an officer now, im starting my package, and im thinking of going AECP. Majority of my friends are AGE so i do believe in the bard going dry....but not by them haha. We're gonna get marines here soon, idk when, but itll be crazy, everyone is thinking its gonna be crazy. What do you guys think of ebay parts? i was thinking of getting some like mirrors, steering wheel and hub adapter. things like that. is ebay the way to go for some parts for this car? idk where im gonna get it painted, but the guy im getting it from is TOM AKIGAMI. He is banking. He has like an NSX, the twin drift cars from DDX 2008, a BMW, a DUCATI 749, and more......he seems prett legit. That and he is the marketing director of dragguam. thanx guys for the welcome. Ill def. get pics as soon as i can.

thatpoorguy 09-01-09 05:11 AM

ebay parts.......take what forest gump said seriously, "it's like a box o'chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get" lol basically check and make sure the seller has a good rep and the more things they've sold with a good rep, the better your chances of getting a high quality part. some shops don't have a website so they sell their parts strictly through ebay and are USUALLY good quality, personal sellers.........can be hit and miss.

blizzaga 09-01-09 10:47 AM

Yup...depending on certain things eBay can be alright. Just make sure it's not the fake stuff. From what I can remember Ari from rx7.com sells stuff on eBay, his username is rx7man. Oh and Tom is a great guy for body work. I HATE his NSX though LoL. If only I had recorded it on the drags...bleh:icon_tdow it was just total fail. Do NOT let him work on your engine .
When the Marines come...it'll be hell for sure...locals are gonna be pissed but hey, what can they do.

dreed7235 09-01-09 11:35 AM

Just a lowly SrA?!! No such thing man. How long till you can get back to the states?

thatpoorguy 09-01-09 01:11 PM

mid janish lol. you know how it is, it can be shorter or longer depending on how they want to do the downsizing in iraq. i may end up in afgahnistan before this trip is over. hopefully not though cause it's cold as hell there haha

aznmagic 09-01-09 05:19 PM

hmmmm.....yeah i was thinking of getting slotted/drilled rotors from brakelabs, body kit...idk because Tom said that the ebay body kits are are curvy and hard as shit to put on. I was thinking of dipping the body kit in pure gold :) to make the car more valuable. But anyway, the body kit, im debating...idk if its worth getting it on ebay. Well these are the parts im getting from ebay

Rotors-brakelabs
Mirrors
Interior dash- Aluminum
Steering Wheel with Hub adapter
Short Shifter
Engine Damper
Carbon Fiber Door handle
JDM pulleys
triple guage pod with guages
Carbon Fiber hood and Hatch

That's all i saw and liked. Other than that, im working on getting a HKS BOV =) They sound uber sexy. Haha i can't believe you dont like his NSX, it LOOKED nice...haha he said its on display at the Honda dealership now. I haven't checked it out yet, but he sent me a picture of it. So what's the first thing i should do for performance? I was told by a guy to change the turbos to nonsequential so they both act on 4500 RPMS. I appreciate all the help guys, i definitely need a lot of help with this car, being that i dont know ANYTHING about rotary engines.

thatpoorguy 09-02-09 04:46 AM

andysautosport.com has some cheap body kits that look nice. i'm personally looking at getting the jp fiberglass body kit with some wider fenders and a 99 spec wing

blizzaga 09-02-09 12:57 PM

HAHA yea...it looked nice to me too.
First mods that should be done is upgrade your cooling. Your gonna need it. Get a Fluidyne Radiator, an after market AST like pettit or the likes. As for converting it to non sequential...I wouldn't do it. Only if your on a budget I guess and want more power but I'd honestly rather get a single turbo kit. An after market ECU should be on your list as well. The Apexi Power FC is a really popular choice. Can't wait to see pics though.

~Shar

thatpoorguy 09-02-09 01:32 PM

at least he has a 93 so he already has the dual oil coolers lol

blizzaga 09-02-09 04:18 PM

Wait...thats the one with the twin turbos right?
God if I can just get a penny for whenever I hear that question I'd be filthy rich.
Man talking about Guam makes me miss home:(

welcome hope you enjoy your new FD. I just returned form Iraq a couple months ago and picked up my '93 FD aswell. I love it. Im stationed at Hill in Utah as a crew chief. Good luck

aznmagic 09-02-09 11:49 PM

Yes the twin turboed version =). Hey i have another question. I just found out about having a CO2 bottle for your intercooler. So it can dramatically cool it down. Anyone know of this or heard of anyone doing this to their rx7? Thanx for the andy's auto sport, they seem like a great site, hope they ship to APO :P. i can't wait to get my tirerack rims too, they look beastly, its the 5 spoke ASA
