91 rx7 n/a new to car forums

Hello, I’m a relatively new person to forums been a long time browser but never made an acount this is my first, I own a 91 rx7 n/a it’s my first one, I’ve owned several miatas and bmws used their forums and got some great info, but I decided to join this one after lots of browsing and research and the rx and rotary community is probably one the most helpful well connected group of people! I decided this was one I wanted to be a part of and I look forward to my time here and the stuff I get done with my car

Welcome aboard. I actually started out browsing for a week or so before joining too with my first rotary, the 1987 GXL (S4 N/A) that has been continually improved. A lot has happened since then, mostly awesome things. If there's one thing about having a RX-7, it's that it teaches you to read, read and read some more.

Do you have any plans for your car? There are a few upgrades I always recommend, such as a FD or Taurus Alternator. This is mainly because even a simple stereo headunit can overtax the stock 70/80A FC alternators. I learned that the hard way. Swapped to a 100 amp FD Alt, all was good untill I went to an electric fan. No bueno anymore. But since it WAS a Taurus fan, it made sense to toss in a 130 amp Taurus Alternator. Then all is happy again.

Hey that’s not a bad idea with the alternator my lights and accessory’s flash all the time, my lights will dim when I through it in nuetral, to be fair I’m running a decent sound system in it with subs haha alternator probably going eventually, I have quite a few plans for the car atm it’s reltively stock, except for aftermarket wheels and I have installed tanabe gf210 drop springs and I’m ordering kyb agx shocks planning to run full through exhaust headers, cat delete and I’m on the fence for what exhaust I want, I know the racing beat dual is a solid piece I’ve just heard it’s quite and I like loud haha, but that’s stuff imma have done soon, at some point I plan to rebuild engine to freshen it up and while I’m at it probably do a large street port

I could not agree with you more Akagis_white_comet, RTFM! I am also new to the forum but not 7's. I wanted to welcome you to the forum TravisRx. It's been a while since I have worked on a S4/S5 but if you have questions I'll try to help.

Thanks that’d be super appreciated

I'm also running KYB AGXs, albeit with Ground Control sleeves/springs. It's firm, but not harsh. As for exhaust, I'm also using the Racing Beat TII catback. It's a solid system that has the look and fit of stock. It's appropriately quiet for a street car during daily driving and won't draw unwanted attention from the 5-0, but becomes pronounced when you plant the fun pedal.

Here's a video of it on a bone stock S4 NA while idling. BTW, this is technically with no cats too.

It sounds about the same behind the 20B-REW too, makes for one hell of a sleeper.

One thing I strongly recommend with a Taurus Alternator is extracting all of the old battery/starter cables from the harness for replacement and rehab. It's dirty, un-fun work, but pays off in dividends when you can actually SEE where they go. When doing this, rehabbing the Main Ground (see Aaron Cake's site for Ground article) is a wise choice too. Anyway, Marine Battery Terminals are a smart move here too, as there will be 3 cables on your positive terminal after cleanup. Fuse box, Alternator and Starter. Last, running the alternator output through its own fuse never hurts. My current setup uses a 140A fuse sourced from a Dodge Ram. It's kind of messy and will be tidied up once I have time for the final electrical mods. I built a custom fuse/relay box a few weeks ago just for this purpose.

I’ve been very back and fourth on what exhaust I want I know the racing beat exhaust is good I’ve been very in decisive but I’ll probably go with the cat back racing beat
