2nd gen racer, new to Forum

Greetings from SE Wisconsin. I have been racing my RX-7 for about 12 years...it's actually my second because the first one was totaled at the 2008 National Championship Runoffs at Road America. I posted a top 5 at the runoffs in 2016, but spun in qualifying and bent the frame at Indy in 2017. I made the race, but did not do well with a patchwork of a car.

The car is built to the E-Production rules in SCCA. It is one of the fastest of it's type in the country. It's a full race prep with only one seat, a custom dash pod and fire system (besides the roll cage), AWR wide body, lexan front and rear windows, lightened doors, etc.. NA, fuel injected, street port, ceramic apex seals, lightened and balanced rotating assembly, custom straight cut close ratio gear box, OS Giken diff, Dynamic dampers, AWR suspension mounting for camber curve correction, front roll center correctors, panasport wheels running Hoosier Radial slicks.

Always good to share information and parts with other Rotary folks.

Cheers

Steve

I would love to see pictures of your car.

I put a few pictures up in my profile album...I'm not sure the admin wants them all posted here, but this gives you an ideahttps://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...d210fedf27.jpg

welcome, cool car. Feel free to start a build thread so you can show off all the work you have done. I have a friend finishing up his FC racecar now, not sure what class he is gonna be running though, I think it will start as a NASA TT car

Hey Andrew,

I have a buddy in the Asheville area that is a 2nd gen guru. I'm hoping to head out to VIR in the spring so I can have him help tune my suspension. If your buddy needs a hand, maybe I can help.

Cool, he is in Richmond, and just needs to finish tuning it. He is running a Haltech and has some issues with transient fueling, do you have any experience? I should be at VIR for Hyperfest this year, will you be?

I'm hoping to do the SAARC event on March 10-11 or maybe the VIR Majors on April 13. Hyperfest sound pretty cool, but VIR is a 15 hour tow for me, and I'd want a lot more track time.

I don't know what Haltech uses for inputs. I used to run a MoTec that used the signal from the stock TPS and Crank Angle Sensor. I've had tip in problems due to the irregular (not smooth) signal from the 25 year old TPS. It creates havoc on your fuel map. I've recently gone to an electromotive with a crank trigger and MAP sensor. I don't tune, but I do know that having balanced injectors running at the proper fuel pressure and duty cycle is critical. My intake is an S-5 that has been honed out and port matched, and the actuator is always open. The primaries phase almost completely out starting at about 3600 rpm so most of the fuel comes through the secondaries. I'm rarely below 5000 RPM on track.

I hope that helps.

I will pass that info on I know he is running a crank trigger and MAP sensor. Not sure what intake he is using but I believe that it is ported. Wisconsin is far from Virginia, You have some good courses in the midwest though.
