242 VS. Rx7 Turbo II
Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum, but not a stranger to Rotaries. My father would build lots of Rotary Mazda's from home when I was young but has recently put an end to all that. I on the other hand had always had an admiration for Rotaries such as; R100, Rx2, Rx7, Eunos Cosmo etc. I never did have a chance to own one until recently, I found an 87 Turbo II for the right price (I still have not purchased it), but also have a 242 as a daily driver. I know that rotaries are not a leader in reliability, but I was wondering with proper maintenance, would a Turbo II be a fun daily driver? It has: 160k, no rust, perfect interior, and no leaks for 2,900 OBO. The only thing is that it runs a bit rich (maybe a new FPR or an MSD 6AL)? I really want to own one, but don’t want to sink all my money in it since I am a student. Any feedback would be great! Thanks in Advance, -Jeff |
If it is in good condition with a good motor it is a reliable car, but you have to remember that they are a 20 old year car now, and have lots of little problems here and there just because of wear and tear. I had a beat up gxl that sucked and was not reliable at all because the previous owner did not take care of it. I then bought a awesome T2 that had been well taken care of and it was the most reliable car I owned. I ran it everyday to work and back. Just take a good look at the car and make sure it has been taken care of and hasn't been beaten to hell.

Thanks for the info! The only problem is the car is in Georgia, so all I have to go by are the pictures that the owner has sent me.

Dude if I was going that far I would get a compression test first to make sure the car is fine. I did that when I bought a T2 from the czech republic when I lived in Germany. The motor was perfect and pics looked good so I went and checked it out. It was in great condition and everything was perfect. I had the test sent to me first, before I went. It was one of my best RX-7s I have had. My FD is a good car too but when something goes wrong it cost a lot more, then my FC did.
Hey post on the NM Forum to see if anyone has a T2 for sale in albuquerque. I know they don't post much but those guys always know someone that has one for sale. |
Where can I find that?

Okay you need to go down to the Regional Forms/ Events. When you see that go to the Mountain Forums, and you will see a sticky for New Mexico. Right now we we are all would be a good time to post because a lot of us seem to be posting right now.
