Why rivets instead of moulding?

I have notice 99% of the Shine rear fender kits are riveted with no moulding to make it look flush, part of the car. Why is this?
The rivets are causing damage to the rear 1/4 anyways, why not mold it in and get rid of the unsightly lip where panel meets car so the back looks smooth again?

Any valid reason?

Molding it on takes time and work, may crack down the road. Riveting, or nut serts are quick, easy, and allow removal if necessary.

Guess it's a personal choice then. I'd rather it look clean and smooth and fix it a year or two later if it cracks rather than spend a year or two with a seem and bolts showing.
Plus, you can remove the moulding with sanding if needs be...
Again, personal preference I guess. Like stance vs stock.
I was honestly just curious why people did it.
