What Amp?

Hey guys, need some advice on affordable amps I should look at. I need to power 2, 450W Subs. I dont know much about sound systems, so is there anything I should look out for installing equipment like that? An what can I do to avoid draining my battery? Im not looking for a show car sound system, just something to make noise :D
Thanks in advance

check out caraudio.comn, carsound.com and elitecaraudio.com. Warning, by doing this you will want something better, I wanted a "basic" system too. 3.5k later I am finally done with my system.

We can narrow down choices if you give a budget.

ditto on usamps, you can also get some zapcos off ebay or the older ppi art series (drooooool) off of ebay.

US Amps FTW.
they're not so pretty but you cannot beat them for quality.
they are highly underrated too.

just be sure to find an amp with will match the combined RMS values of the pair of subs at their combined impedances. (OHMs)

if they are 4ohm subs, wired in parallel, they will run 2ohms as the pair
when wired in a series, they will present an 8ohm load

likewise, if they are 2ohms each, in parallel they will run 1ohm (low quality amps will not be stable at 1ohm)
and in a series they will run a 4ohm load.

My suggestions.
if they are 4ohm subs. Find an amp that will provide 900watts RMS @ 2ohms.
a mono amp is your best bet, as is class D because it wont produce much heat.

if the subs are 2ohms, find an Amp that is 1ohm STABLE and will do around 900watts @ 1ohm RMS

PPI, directed audio, viper audio are all brands of mid-high quality, class D, mono amps that will run completely stable at 1ohm. they are actually all made by PPI.

Many USamps will run 1ohm stable as well.

you need to allow room in your budget for wiring as well.
running 900watts, you should settle for nothing less than 4gauge. a 900watt draw @ 14 volts will produce a 64amp draw on your battery at RMS ratings.

feel free to ask any questions.

***I am NOT A PRO by any means so all you audiofile n00b bashers can shove it. these are just my recomendations.

I reccomend a Harrison Labs amp. You can find them on eBay from $200 to $$$$.
