Well ... let me just say that the FC Vert sucks for stereo upgrades

So i just dropped about 635 bucks on a double din dvd unit. Then dropped about 50 bucks on polk audio speakers (marked down from 139.99 :D) Another 20 on a harness and so on and so forth.

So I get home start taking the dash and panels off, only to find out that the harness doesn't work. .... ahhhh the joy of having a factory amp. So now I'm told I have to do surgery to get this unit to function properly. (I'm just going to pay someone to do it). Soooooo I figure I'll just do the speakers.

I go take all the old speaker stuff out, and what do ya know?
1. The speakers will not mount up to the stock holes on the stock mounting plate (I figured this from before though)
2. They are to deep, and if i put them in i lose all functionaltiy of my windows.

Arghhhh ... so NOW my questions is
1. What GOOD speakers can I get that will fit our cars (don't want to spend a crapload of money)
2. How much should I be paying for this entire installation ?

What year is your vert? When I was mounting my speakers, I had no issues with the depth, as window only blocked the back half of the door. Here are some thinner speakers http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/THIN-...QQcmdZViewItem

I suggest that you get an amplifier for the speakers if you want the best sound. I personally put 4 speakers in the spare tire cover directly behind the seat with their own amplifier, two subwoofers in the trunk, a set of polk components for the doors and pioneers for the remaining speakers.

howd you wire the headunit ... because i was told that i need to do something screwy because of the cars amplifier ?

anyway we connected it straight to the battery and grounded it inder the hood and the unit worked fine. but we wired it to the plugs behind the radio and connected everything properlly and it didn't evn blink?

I wouldent say they are that bad if you are willing to spend the right change in the right places. Mine kicks pretty good and with minimal mods.
1- RF P3001 mono amp
1- RF P3002 stereo amp
2- RF 8 gauge single amp wiring kits
3- RF T162C door speakers
2- RF T142C dash speakers
2- P18S4 subs
Alpine CDA-9856 head unit

It’s a start for now and trust me you can get good sound out of a vert, you just gotta know wore to blow the dough. And as far as running wire for amps no other big mods needed.

Future mods
RF CPC10-03 1 Farad cap
900 CCA optima bat.
T162S component speakers to replace the T162C set in the door.

I personally have Infinity reference seperates in front and reference 2ways for rear fill, with amp mounted behind drivers seat. I didnt re-use existing wire...just rewired everything as to avoid using the built in amps. No problems whatsoever.

91 couple BTW.

I cant see bothering with a $635 head unit just to run it through the factory amp to 4" speakers.

I put a spacer on my door speakers so they would not interfere with the windows.

Infinity used to make shallow mount reference series speakers, they aren't too bad. Make some spacer plates, or mount them on the outside of the door panel with a grill to cover it. Or build custom speaker pods.

If you want someone to do an amp bypass, don't pay more than about $80. We charge $60 at our shop, and it's usually about it. I used to work at Circuit City as well, and $40-60 was the going rate, depending on the mood of the installer.

If you really want to kill two birds with one stone, get a four channel amp, and run new wires from the amp to the speakers themselves. If you are handy you can do it yourself.

infinity's are great, as are alpine. you'll have to bypass your factory amp and run new speaker wire to each speaker to get the best possible install. make sure you have a good ground as well:)

ok getting an amp prob in a few weeks .. as for now the regular speakers and head unit will ahve to do :)
