Vinyl Wrap FD's?
 

Anybody on here wrapped their fd with a flat/matte vinyl color? How'd it turn out looking? And any recommendations?

A good vinyl wrap job may cost more than $3K, a good job of plasti dip would cost around $800 or less. Something you might want to consider, especially if you're thinking of flat/matte colors. I don't see any advantage of vinyls against plasti-dip, in fact, I see the opposite.

you can plasti dip it yourself and if you get sick of it you can remove it no problems as long as you put it on thick it will peel off. i work with vinyls if the a quality brand is not used it can be a nightmare to remove.

Looked at a wrapped FD a while ago. The wrap was only about a year old, and was a high quality 3M product; but it wasn't holding up well.

Wrinkles around hard edges, some peeling in complex corners. Was going to remove it if I purchased it, even though the color was good and the original paint was in bad shape. It just bugged me too much.

it was prolly left out in the weather too much that's why its coming apart after 1 year. vinyl wrapped cars need to be kept in a garage if you want it too last.

either way if you want wrap or plasti dip to look good and last you need a good paint job under it, and in my opinion you cant beat the look of paint.
plenty paint jobs have stood the test of time if looked after.

if your ganna go down that path though then plasti dip it, stone chips and scratches are easily repaired with a few more coats and you can do it yourself at home unlike the vinyl wrap.
one bad thing is the plasti dip does not like petrol but easily fixed by using a small funnel when filling up.

Thanks for the input guys, I know how to do vinyl wrap so it would just be cost of the product that's why I was leaning towards vinyl, but I really hadn't thought of plasti dip, any of you have it done? Got any pictures?

no have never had it done, but have seen people spray bits and pieces of there interior with it wich turned out pretty good.

read through that link I posted^^^ the guy changes colour with plasti dip like 4-5 times with pictures.

Thanks man, I've seen pictures of that FD before, I had no clue it was plastidipped, it looks badass.

give it a go I don't see why yours cant turn out the same.

I plan on vinyl wrapping mine myself. I have plasti dipped several cars with the kits from dipyourcar and the results were great. The issue I faced was the dip is not as smooth, and dirt likes to find its way in every crevice of the not so smooth surface. You can clean it with a soft brush but I had to do it sometimes twice a week, and it was starting to wear down after 1 year. My brothers car has been fine for several years however, but he doesnt clean it much. Removing the dip took less than 45 minutes for the whole car which was cool, but getting it out behind the tail lights, over spray in the door jambs and around any liner is quite annoying and would take a lot more time.

I will be vinyl wrapping for sure, while using 3m edge sealer to ensure the edges get some extra adhesive.
