Stupid Ricer Question
 

Ok, so when I bought my car it came with a big FAT windshield banner. I mean huge. At first, I detested the thing, but as time wore on, it has come to grow on me, and now I like it. Enter "Dickhead cop from some city I'll never be in again" to decide and give me a fix-it ticket for my banner which cops in my own town have never seen fit to site me a penalty for. So now I have this fix-it ticket, and this banner which I've grown to love, and now this question: Is it possible to remove this banner, and then reapply it after I get my ticket written off? (See, I told you it was a stupid ricer question!) I'd imagine that the process of removing it wouldn't be too difficult with some glue solvent, it's the process of getting it back on there that provides me trouble. As far as I know, they don't sell window tint glue all by itself, and that's the kind of glue I'd want to use. Does anybody know where I could find a similar glue to reapply the banner with? Please no "just buy another banner" posts. Thanks guys!

Most banners are self adhesive vinyl sheet, so you would need to scrape & peel off the banner.

The odds of re-installing the same banner are very very low. Once removed they often rip and wrinkle as well as are no longer in good shape. Any sort of solvent will only make the situation worse.

The glue used is impregnated into the vinyl, so you can't really use a new vinyl adhesive to re-apply it.

So if you must put the banner back on, you will need a new banner made from new self adhesive vinyl sheet. Most commercial sign stores can hook you up.

Icemark is rigth, your going to destroy the banner getting it off. Best thing to do it take the car to a sign shop and let them see the banner and find out how much it would be to reproduce.

Best way to remove the banner is to heat it up with a heat gun and use a razor blade to peal it up. Go slow and try to get it off in as few peices as possible. This stuff called goof off is pretty good for removing the left over glue. I got it at home depo.

There's one more option that probably won't work, but you'd only be out 10 minutes of your time. If you really think cops in your town won't have a problem with it, you can take your car to a police station rather than an inspection station and ask them to sign off on it. I had an asshole inspector make me do it for my window tint and my exhaust (n1).. they were both legal, but he was too stubborn to pass them.

All they can do is say no.
