Open to any and all suggestions for a complete stereo. I left out the amp cuz they confuse the shit outa me with all this wattage/2 channel and 4 channel stuff. The only thing i know is that more wattage= bigger price tag. Also when do you need to add another battery and other things like that? I love alpine. Like alot so they are basically all i want to put in the car. But i am open to seeing other brands that are same quality. I have a big budget but also want to have fun with this project i am planning on doing my own sub enclosure with my dad who does fiberglass work. I want something that is going to hit verd hard as well as mantain very good audio quality. I dont want something that is all compeition stuff but i want something that can hurt my ears if i turn it up loud enough.:) Any help is greatly appreciated. Going in my FD so you know what i have to work with room wise. |
2 subs that big is gonna be WAY to powerful for your fd. your not gonna want 3000 watts 2 feet behing your head while driving it just wont be comfortable and youll hate it.
unless your a guy that likes to be completely deaf when you get out of your car and your brain feels like its gonna explode. if you have a big budget get a JL w7 12 on a 1000 watt amp and and be done. an addad bonus witht his set up is that you wont have the added weight of 2 12's and a huge box . |
Would 2 tens type R alpine be enough to get the effect i want.
I have this thing about semtirey and have to have 2 of everything to look nice. Dont ask me why just been one of those things since i was little. Would the 10's be to big? |
1 ten does wonders for me. But i drive a FB.
|
Well i want the term "take your breath away" to be said when sitting in the car at the right volume.
Would 2 tens accomplish this at the right wattage? Also what amp would be good to push 2 tens? What side door speakers are like way awesome, I love to listen to lota of very differnt types of music and want a broad range so the side speakers are very important to accomplish that complete sound? Or is there other ways to achieve this? |
Well crap, just had a big reply typed up by my computer crashed ... lets start over.
First off, the problem with dual subs in a RX-7 is it really limits your placement and box size options. I say you're better off with a single sub, and optimizing it's box and placement. If you want to stick with Alpine, that's fine, the Type R are great subs. Specifically I'd go with a single 10 or 12 and put it in an Extended Bass Shelf enclosure near the back of the hatch area. You can use WinISD to model a good EBS enclosure. For the front stage, 95% of what you hear will be coming from them so don't skimp. Taking the time to properly install a good component set up front makes all the difference in the World. Put lots of damping material on your doors, do fiberglass work to put the midbass driver in a completely sealed enclosure, and mount the tweeters up high on the doors and angled toward your head. Again Alpine makes some good components sets, some of the Type-X stuff can sound excellent. Definately don't use a co-axial if you have the budget to do it right. And you won't need a separate battery for this setup. Just make sure what you do have is in good shape, alternator, wiring and chassis grounds, battery, etc. Use a pair of the Alpine Class-D ICEPower amps, they're much more efficient than typical class A/B amps, which means they won't draw as much current from your charging system. They're also smaller, run cooler, and sound excellent. |
Thanks alot for the info!
The x set was something i was looking at and will most likly go with those. I have only one concern and that is i want it to hit hard and i fear that one sub with a good enclosure isnt going to give me that seriuos thump i want. I dont think i will ever really turn it up that loud to get that big boom its just nice to know its there. Do you think that i can get that effect from one sub? |

So you think W200, Xset up front, 12 type R, and that amp Class-D ICEPower (more then one?)would put me where i want to be?

You have a "big" budget doesnt really help. I could reccomend a set of rainbow reference speakers that will do more then "take your breath way" but they cost $10,000. The type r is a great sub, but is an entry level sub and better can be had, for the price though it is a good sub.
I have the w200 in my car and love it, i use to be a huge alpine fan boy, had their type x speakers and subs. Didnt really like them, at all, magnet was a bit too big for the fronts anyways. Give me a budget and ill give you an ideal set-up. One 10 or 12 is enough, i had two 12" diamond d6's and it was unbearable and completely pointless with such a small cabin. DONT FORGET: its 90% install 10% Equipment |
I did some thinking last night and have alot of stuff laid out on what i want to do with my 7 and i think that it would be better to tighten this budget so i can afford the dreaded LS1. My initial budget was 2k buying brand new everything wires new battery the whole nine, But now i think it would be best to cut that in half and start there. So PureRx7 I would say my budget is around 1k, But with the budget cut that means i am willing to buy used stuff maybe ebay or a local listing so if i can find what i want used for under 1k i will be happy if not i am willing to work a few extra hours to get the budget up to 1.5 i suppose if i have to.
So what suggestions for a setup would you think would be good? |
go with the jl like i suggested. the w7 12 can be had brand new for around $400 the amp can be had for around $400 as well. which will leave you around 200 for a box and wiring. with this setup you shouldnt have to get a new battery or upgrade the alternator.

Since you're now talking on a budget, get the Type R sub and go with Pioneer PRS components. The PRS set is probably the best price/performance component set out there right now, and a single Type R 12" with 500watts in a RX-7 can produce more output than you can stand. Also get on one of the mobile audio sites, like diymobileaudio.com and use the classifieds.

Thanks guys for the help so much. I hope there are alot of people who will be able to use this thread for ideas. Now as far as sound damping goes would it be a good idea? I want to do LS1 and its loud so i am thinking it wouldnt be a bad idea. Any suggestions?
|
For a single 12 setup, if you are wanting something really loud, I'd go with a DD sub or Audioque. They are the same thing basically and they will take TONS of power and sound good doing it. Very affordable too.
