Shaving shine's rear flares
Is it possible to shave the flat wheel arch out of the Burnout or Feed rear fender flares without ruining them? Obviously filler would be needed to smooth it back out, but I'm wondering if there is enough material there to allow it to be shaved down.
I really like those two options for rear flares because they aren't bubbly like the pettit flares, but I hate the flat arch. |
I'm in CT and the car should be coming out of the body shop tomorrow. Also has a full FEED kit from Shine. What do you mean by 'flat wheel arch'?
Just curious. |
Beanie, hes talking about the crease in the fender above the wheel.
I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. I have a set of shine feed rears and the only reason Im debating between putting them on or pulling the fenders is because of that. It ruins the "smooth sleekness". I was thinking about this same question today but only came to the conclusion that it would have to be sanded down and rebuilt with fiberglass/filler and sanded to be smooth. |
So you're just referring to molding them in? It can certainly be done by a reputable body shop. I chose to keep mine riveted on because I like the 'tacked on' look they add. RSpecFD's car (a CYM on Canibeat) has them molded in as well as PureRX's car. It's the red one in the FS thread.
I could be off base here though. |

There's definitely a need for a "mini" Pettit-style rear flare. The Pettits don't need to be nearly that big... you can get 12" wheels under there, and still look completely tucked.

Yeah. I know ronin has some in the works. But they are really wide too, but less bubbly. I will probably end up with them.
I doubt there is enough material on the feed ones to simply shave out the arch, it probably require too much work to build back out, but I was hoping maybe someone had tried. I want something about 20mm wider with a smooth arch to match stock lines. I also like the ones that have little flared lips in the back, but you really need sanai front fenders to match which are very hard to find. |
I understand what you mean now. In truth, I never really focused on that part. I had a car with pettit flares but they're far too wide imo. Mini-pettit's FTW!

It is possible with fibreglass yes (FEED), as the arch clears the rear fenders by a fair distance when fitted. You would have to cut it out and smooth it off with some fibreglass & filler I would think, as the FRP is not close to being thick enough.
