Thats a good 15+ years of wear, and they all come over here quite well used unless they are the spirit R seats which are A) newer B) less miles and C) typically have less kilometers on them.

Good question... I'm sure heavier folks will definitely put more stress on the track. I'm roughly 210lbs and I'm doing great thanks for asking. :) My driver side seat was near mint when I bought it... have roughly 3K miles on them personally.

Haha I'm doing well too. sorry for the type... it was kinda borat-esque... jegshemesh! Sorry I meant to type "how TALL are you" . Yeah the japanese passenger side (our driver side) definitely doesnt see as much wear... thats a good point. Where is the crack? Is it at one of the lower nuts or actually IN the seat? If its cracked at all I would seriously (and unfortunately) suggest no longer using it, cause in an accident it might not be safe :(

Actually used SPAs, as these aren't homologated for race use. One prolific poster of forums worldwide has them in his SP though...probably where you've seen them.

^^^Cracked seat above should be repairable - one that was partially torn by a belt in an impact, came up surprisingly good locally.

I think the real issue here is, why supernaut has rz seats in his spirit r replica!

just kidding...

i have the RZ's in my car and both are different weave pattern? does that mean that i have an RZ and a Spirit R?:scratch: freind of mine noticed it last week due to this thread. i will post pics later.

The weave actually varies, even on the one seat.

The Spirit R and RZ seats share the same part number, the variations you see are just production variations.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of this.

I found some proof that the weave patterns are different...

These are a pic of my seats from rx7boutique...

It's very interesting to note that the weave pattern is different on black seats. The difference must be due to years and not model.

It would explain the cracking mentioned above too. However I have not verified this. Better seats available for less money IMO.

Without a single doubt - they are fiberglass with a layer or two of backing.
I simply hate the hype these seats have. They're pretty cheap being a fiberglass w/ kevlar backing.

for the price these go for, used, i can't stand them. no pair of $3k+ seats should flex like these (at least my pairs) do. Sure, there is all types of "mad-jdm-tyte overnighted parts from japan" coolness for them but for any real hard driving - I honestly felt like mine would crack.

did they? doubtful, the clear on the fiberglass had hairline cracks all over the ass/bottom side.
so i guess the fatboys need to watch out huh? :-)

anyhow, to the point, these are simply kevlar-backed seats, the rest is fiberglass.

...now, when will Shine make copies? :-)

Supernaut 09-08-11 09:04 AM

Yea these seats are overpriced but people want them. It's insane. At this point, I think the rarity of the seats will keep the prices up for a long time.

The RZs on the left have a black Z pattern while the red seats are more uniform over a smaller area.

I just got a set of these seats for my FD and I tried to bolt them in thinking it was just a plug-n-play style of installation and the brackets are totally different. The brackets on these seats are about 1" too short in length and about 1" too wide from aligning up with the chassis holes. Any advice? These seats have just the slide brackets, no tilt feature.

I'm hoping I'm just retarded and couldn't figure out how to adjust the rails. But the rails don't seem like they are adjustable in any way.

lane_change 07-12-12 09:19 PM

If anyone has a picture of their RZ seat rails, I would love to see the comparison....I'm truly baffled. I even had another RX7 friend come by to look at them to try and help me understand, and we basically concluded that there is simply no way for these to work.

Herblenny 07-12-12 10:25 PM

Lane Change, It could be the fact that it was disassembled from the seat when shipped and then reassembled after it got here. I would loosen the bolts on the seats, try to move it and then see if you could gain that inch.

Another thing I realized this time around when I was putting my Spirit Rs, if I moved the seats all they to the front to get to the rear mounting bolts, its super hard as the seats gets pushed to one side. This time I just barely moved it and everything lined up.

If that doesn't work, I have a set of RZ with tilt rails so I'll check those for you this weekend.

I can try and just take the rails off the seats and see if I can get the rails to fit the car w/o any seat on them. I doubt it since the rails are about 1" too short in length to reach....very strange. I hope you're right, that would be awesome. But after measuring it all out, I don't see how it could fit.

Do these help? I have a couple others as well and these two in HI RES if you want them.
These are from RZ seats.

crispy

lane_change 07-13-12 07:23 AM

Well, obviously those rails look completely different as they should since they appear to have the tilt feature on them. Do you have a set of non tilt rails to look at? I will get my rails off the seats today and get some pictures of the rails independently as well.

Herblenny 07-13-12 07:25 AM

Oh.. I see..

Here is my other guess... These might be from a Miata.
I believe RS version of Miata also had these and some could easily be mistaken that these were for an FD. Both RZ and RS miata had the same Recaro seats but different rails. Now looking at the length of the rail (I was thinking just side to side), I think it could potentially for a Miata and not for an FD.

Hmmmm....that would suck.

Quick google search for Miata RS seats.

Those looks like my rails. Well, I think you may have solved this one.

Next question: Anyone have a set of RZ FD seat rails for sale. lol

Herblenny 07-13-12 07:43 AM

I'm sorry to hear they are for RS Miata. I've searched for rails in the past and tough to find without getting the seats (or too expensive). I ended up buying a crappy condition seats just to get the rails.

lane_change 07-13-12 11:06 AM

Wow....don't want to have to buy another set of seats just for the rails. I'd rather just return these seats and buy different seats.

lane_change 07-13-12 07:21 PM

Here are some pics of the rails in the car w/o the seats on them so you can see the alignment. The rails are too wide so the handle won't pull the cable to loosen the slider on the opposite side, and the rail holes don't line up at any location to have a starting point.

Front Seat Rail inside with the alignment pin in the hole.

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i1...2/DSC02588.jpg

Here is the rail going up/down so you can see where the proper bolt location would be for reference.

Here are the rear holes with the front alignment pin still in the proper slot.

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i1...2/DSC02593.jpg

Here is that same seat rail pitched to the side so you can see where the hole should be at in relation.

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i1...2/DSC02587.jpg

Here is the front outside hole that is the closest of the 4 with the alignment pin in place.
