Reupholstering my FC interior.

My seats are all torn up and sun-damaged so I'm reupholstering them. I've not done this before. Here's what I've made so far:

I'm gonna go see if it fits here in a bit.
This one is for practice, to see if the pattern I created is correct. I will be making two more after this one, in gray, to match the original color. This black stuff is just the fabric I had sitting around.

Well it's not perfect but I guess it's pretty decent for a first try at upholstery:

Has a few more wrinkles in the seat area than I'd like but overall I think it's looks good for my first effort. Now I have to decied if I want to make 2 more in grey or one more in black.

SayNoToPistons 09-24-07 06:15 PM

Do they loosen up from the seats when you sit on them?

KhanArtisT 09-24-07 06:51 PM

Damn! that changes the look of interior so much, good job.

1st7 09-24-07 07:24 PM

antiSUV 09-24-07 08:34 PM

Here's a better pic:

No it doesn't loosen up when you sit on it. It's the same as the stock seats, just a different material. The pattern and construction is the same.

SayNoToPistons 09-24-07 11:08 PM

Soo... Would you like to sell some? :) Seriously interested.

MidnightOwl 09-25-07 01:26 AM

Wait, you've never done it before and you stitched that yourself?!?!?! THAT'S AMAZING. I would have been all thumbs the whole way, upholstery is not my bag by any means. That deserves some mad props.

sweeteuphoria 09-25-07 01:39 PM

Wow... I would be interested also. Beautiful. The black looks nice too

PvillKnight7 09-25-07 01:51 PM

very nice!

Did you use anything to attach the cover to the seat so it doesn't lift up when you sit in it...or is the cover such a good fit that this isn't a concern?

antiSUV 09-25-07 02:18 PM

It's not a cover covering up the old upholstery. It's new upholstery and it attaches to the seat frame and seat foam the same way that the stock upholstery did. It works and installs exactly the same as the stock upholstery becuase I used the stock upholstery to make my patterns. The entire seat consists of 34 individual pieces sewn together, and uses about 200 yds. of upholstery thread.

Flash 09-25-07 07:25 PM

I take it you did that with a sewing machine right? I was under the impression you need a special one to sow leather, vinyl or thick cloth. Is that true?

Nice work btw.

finishline 09-25-07 07:59 PM

antiSUV, if you actually had the time to make these,
you'll be makin some $$$$$$
good stuff, i'd say. =]

nyc_scorpio 09-25-07 08:01 PM

why did I skip the arts and crafts class in HS dammit lol
Great job man..

1st7 09-25-07 08:50 PM

so ok i need a price for mine in grey!!!

antiSUV 09-26-07 08:33 PM

I don't know if I can make them fast enough for it to be worth my while money-wise. Upholstery is quite labor-intensive, especially when you don't have a CNC fabric cutting table that cuts out 50 sets of patterns at a time. When I do my passenger seat I will track the time I spend and figure out what I'd want to charge for a set. I really doubt that the price would be acceptable to the FC community though. Installing them properly isn't super-easy either. How much do you guys really think people would pay for a set of both seats?
