Reupholstering my FC interior.
My seats are all torn up and sun-damaged so I'm reupholstering them. I've not done this before. Here's what I've made so far:
http://www.mcdonaldindustries.com/ja...SANY0698-s.jpg http://www.mcdonaldindustries.com/ja...SANY0699-s.jpg I'm gonna go see if it fits here in a bit. This one is for practice, to see if the pattern I created is correct. I will be making two more after this one, in gray, to match the original color. This black stuff is just the fabric I had sitting around. -James |
looks good so far. Be sure to post pic when your done!

Well it's not perfect but I guess it's pretty decent for a first try at upholstery:

Shit load better than most of us could do. Good job.
I'll take 2 in leather please :D
for some reason it reminds me of a teddy bear
^^^
If you think about making some more let me know I need some for my base seats. |
Looks really nice, good job!
Here's the final result. Got all done last night:
http://www.mcdonaldindustries.com/ja.../SANY0703s.jpg Has a few more wrinkles in the seat area than I'd like but overall I think it's looks good for my first effort. Now I have to decied if I want to make 2 more in grey or one more in black. |
Do they loosen up from the seats when you sit on them?
Damn! that changes the look of interior so much, good job.
i will take mine in grey!!!!
Here's a better pic:
http://www.mcdonaldindustries.com/ja.../SANY0706s.jpg No it doesn't loosen up when you sit on it. It's the same as the stock seats, just a different material. The pattern and construction is the same. |
Soo... Would you like to sell some? :) Seriously interested.
Wait, you've never done it before and you stitched that yourself?!?!?! THAT'S AMAZING. I would have been all thumbs the whole way, upholstery is not my bag by any means. That deserves some mad props.
Wow... I would be interested also. Beautiful. The black looks nice too
very nice!
Did you use anything to attach the cover to the seat so it doesn't lift up when you sit in it...or is the cover such a good fit that this isn't a concern? |
It's not a cover covering up the old upholstery. It's new upholstery and it attaches to the seat frame and seat foam the same way that the stock upholstery did. It works and installs exactly the same as the stock upholstery becuase I used the stock upholstery to make my patterns. The entire seat consists of 34 individual pieces sewn together, and uses about 200 yds. of upholstery thread.
I take it you did that with a sewing machine right? I was under the impression you need a special one to sow leather, vinyl or thick cloth. Is that true?
Nice work btw. |
antiSUV, if you actually had the time to make these,
you'll be makin some $$$$$$ good stuff, i'd say. =] |
why did I skip the arts and crafts class in HS dammit lol
Great job man.. |
so ok i need a price for mine in grey!!!
I don't know if I can make them fast enough for it to be worth my while money-wise. Upholstery is quite labor-intensive, especially when you don't have a CNC fabric cutting table that cuts out 50 sets of patterns at a time. When I do my passenger seat I will track the time I spend and figure out what I'd want to charge for a set. I really doubt that the price would be acceptable to the FC community though. Installing them properly isn't super-easy either. How much do you guys really think people would pay for a set of both seats?
