Regrets about sleek lights...

So I finished installing the Evo-R light kit, and I must say what a terrible piece of crap of lights they are. The bases do not line up correctly. One sticks out more than the other, and they are totally uneven. Not worth $500, definately. For anyone considering getting them, save your money, stick with pop-ups.

Anyway, so now that I have an empty space where my headlights go, and dont want to go back to pop-ups, I am considering piecing a kit from several soures together.

I have seen people use Rotary Extreme pods with Hella projectors, but there is also another brand of pirated RE pod, also in CF.

Has anyone pieces a sleek light kit from various sources? I am ditching my kit, so any help is greatly apprciated. I want to try something before I give up on the sleek lights. Without actually buying the real RE, what else is there? Not trying to be cheap, but $2200 for the real deal RE kit is a bit high.

I hear ya on the overall crappiness of the sleek lights!

I used Chuck's (rotary extreme) old kit for the fiberglass pods, and the light brackets, and the lights. Painted the pods body color. After trial mounting them I drilled out the self tapping screws and did threaded inserts. Then I painted my engine bay so everything matched. Also I sanded and painted the headlight housings the low gloss black that looks more factory. After that I bought all new allen head stainless steel hardware for the light height adjusters, as well as the hold down hardware. This was to keep the lights from looking like home depot parts bin stuff. Then I got convex lexan covers that another member made for his kits, (I forget who). Rather than silicone them on, I used that clear 3M film that is made to protect paint on the front of cars. We smoothed it over the covers, then held it firmly while trimming and wrapping it around all the edges. Turned out pretty good, but not perfect. But now the entire body painted light pod is visible, without a black ring around it. No pix yet, since I am working on new wider front fenders.

IMHO you will spend a ton of time/effort getting any of the aftermarket light kits to look decent. Your time/money are prolly better spent donating $ to jimlab's headlight project. He has had plans for a while now to have some stock-like smooth lights molded by an OEM-style company. You better believe when those come out I will be tossing these that I have spent forever on in the trashcan....

love my sleek lights (rotary run racing), have HIDs in my projectors and fitment was great and lights up the road really well. Only downside is you have to cut the frame and bumper, not to mention they are probably the rarest sleek lights to find for the FD next to the r-magic ones.

I belong to Hidplanet, I just havent spent enough time. I will read more on it. I am purchasing a kit made by Rotary Extreme, the non hid version. It seems a lot of people are happy the way it fits, as in no BS one-side-dont-fit kinda shit. I read that the light aint so great, but there is room to put some Hella HID's. Thanks lads and keep the info comming.

BTW, any info on Jimlabs stuff?? Any link?

That EVO-R kit looks absolutely terrible even when it's installed and fits. Go back up to pop-ups, they look the best
