RE Amemiya Rear Diffuser
Anybody on the forum have one? If so, have you had any fitment problems or ground clearance problems?
I'm going to buy the old style diffuser, not the new Diffuser Pro http://www.efini.net/diffuser.htm (it's the one on Wael's yellow car in this link) Let me know ASAP since I want to order it tomorrow. The black piece on the bottom of my rear bumper got ripped off, and I'm thinking that this diffuser will cover it, plus add unique touch to an otherwise clean Silver FD. The fact that it may reduce high speed rear end lift/create rear end downforce is a bonus. See a pix of it from A-Spec halfway through this thread from December: https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...=rear+diffuser Scott |
how much $$?

RE Amemiya Diffuser $690 (circa Feb 2001) from Corksport (shipping from Japan not included). Takes forever and a day to get them in. Only rice boyz buy those things. :D J/K.

You should get the newer one, i think Wael is running that one now, from what I recall and it was said to be more effective according to the butt dyno- besides I want to get the new one but im not paying 1000 for it when i know damn well it would cost me no more than 250.00 in carbon fiber to make for myself. If you get the other one (newer) i'll pay you for shipping to my house in CA (plus let you hold a paypal deposit on cost of the whole thing) so that I can make a mold of it and start making them for people on the forum. maybe split the cost of it ( a fiberglass one) and then pay for shipping to your place in washington.

As far as being ricey........:D ............ is a ORECA Viper ricey? a 360 Modena? a McLaren F1? I know that theirs are wind tunnel tested, but I'm taking about the look. Scott |

I really like the older one, in fact I was planning on getting it but just decided to go with the C-West kit all the way around. Maybe things will change by the time I get the cash to buy things.
|
Just pulled the trigger on the older one. I think Hedgehog's pictures firmed it up for me. Even though he didn't say much about ground clearance issues those are the best pictures I have seen yet of how it fits. Looks like it doesn't hang much lower than the exhaust - and it certainly doesn't stick out as far. I have the Apexi Dual N1 catback so I think it will look BAD ASS.
Now the only issue is the wait time... God I hope this doesn't take as long as it took for the exhaust >2months. Would like to have the shop install it while they are respraying the bumper. Oh, and I also got a 99 front spoiler with brake ducts, the new "flying M" logos front and back, and the new MAZDA and RX7 chrome logos for the back (mine are messed up). How psyched am I? Scott |
You wish it's only 2 months. I ordered my stuff back in late Jan/early Feb 2001. Goods arrived at my place in late July 2001. Then it sat in my garage until December. :D

what does this thing actually do anyways?

C-west = GAY!
That diffuser is AWESOME! Thats expensive from Corksport I know someone thats doing them for $595 I believe it was with the shipping to your house |
Long story.... but does anyone know if the stock exhaust will fit w/ the RE old style diffuser? Just want to make sure before I attempt it.
|
probably, that wouldnt be very wise of them to make an aftermarket part that wouldnt fit on a stock version of the car they made it for.. the old school re diffusers look so much cooler too cause they have all the little fin things.. I think Jt-imports had the cf one for 660 or something like that. the site is under construction now. it said it was still very functional even though it was the old one too.
|
JT I think is changing some stuff around, he said you have to use the Manufactuer links/search for right now.
The old diffuser is NICE. |
RE-A did not make the old diffuser in CF, only FG. It was ~$560 when I bought it, but that's with TWO other people getting it at the same time. If you just want 1 shipped over, it's gonna cost you a pretty penny. For a while the price went up to $800-900, but I believe it is down to $6-700 again (he's found other ways to ship I think).
I ordered mine from them in October/November '02 and got it Feb/March '03. It fits just about any exhaust if you don't mind trimming it as necessary. |

I plan to keep the Pro-Diffuser and install it along with my custom DECH wing the night before I go to the track, but for everyday use (as if I drive my car everyday:) ) the old style diffuser is much better, clearance is not any issue, assuming one has a sensible lowered car, and the wing removal lets me see that sexy hump on the hatch where the third brake light is. cheers W |
Is this an old thread or what?
Wael digging em up eh? D. |
Heard a rumor that "someone" was copying the old style diffuser in carbon, did a search and found this...still no leads on the CF copy though. Any clue?
cheers W |
If anyone would it would be Chuck at Rotary Extreme.
PM him at nopistons.com D. |
Ahhh! Good 'ol Chucky. Will check, thanks for the heads up.
cheers W |
the copy cat hehe
|
Back from the grave.
I am now kicking around the thought of buying one of the original RE diffusers. Anyone know if someone state side stocks these things still? -D. |
NOPE.
Carbon fiber would be close to IMPOSSIBLE with all those curves on the old style one.. |
