Pics of my Vert install
Finally, here are some pics of the install in my '90 Vert. I did it all myself...
It consists of: Nakamichi CD-45Z HeadUnit CDT Audio HD-642DT 3 way, 6.5" component set OZ Audio 10" DVC sub Precision Power 4200M running at 200x2 for components Adcom GFA-4402 running at 300x1 for sub I bought an Aura MR-675 amp to replace the two amps and run the whole system. It's rated at 70x6 I think, bridges to 180x3 - but is way under-rated, so it's more like 250x3. It has built in crossover/eq. I might also replace the sub with something else. Like maybe a CDT sub, or an A/D/S or Focal sub. http://rx7club.wegov2.com/file_depot...r/9407/stereo2 http://rx7club.wegov2.com/file_depot...r/9407/stereo1 http://rx7club.wegov2.com/file_depot...r/9407/stereo3 http://rx7club.wegov2.com/file_depot...r/9407/stereo4 http://rx7club.wegov2.com/file_depot...r/9407/stereo5 ------------------ http://rx7club.wegov2.com/file_depot...3893/New%20Sig |

Kewl. How is the staging with the components setup like that. I've been looking at my doors wondering where I was gonna fit 3 spkrs.
The Nackamichi head unit is killer !!! |

The Nackamichi head unit is killer !!! I like the Nak. My first one was a lemon. It skipped a LOT and wouldn't play CD-R's. So I returned it, they gave me a new one and installed it. Now it works fine. Plays anything I throw at it. I've been thinking about buying a DSP that can do time alignment - otherwise known as putting a delay on the channel. That would help move the soundstage out a little and equalize it. Although it sounds so good right now I can't complain. I'll have pics of the amp/wiring install soon. Right now it's kinda half-assed since I'm putting the new amp in later this week. |
I am going to have to come over and take a closer look at that setup. I need a serious sound upgrade in my vert and that looks pretty awesome. I was afraid of putting in some aftermarket head unit because I thought it would look "out of place" in that great big opening, but yours looks real clean.

I got the Nakamichi partially because it doesn't look out of place. It has kinda the same look as stock, and it has some of the best sound quality of any unit on the market. And if you're worried about losing the headrest speakers, don't worry...you'll never miss them. Come over for a listen and I'll show you what I mean. |
Hey, BOOSTD, why not get the MASS 10", the box u r building will have enough room for it, pluse it has a longer excursion than the EVO...
I dunno, I'm gonna go with 1 MASS 12, right now I'm trying to design a false floor that will look good and make all the amps and stuff look purty... [This message has been edited by Cypher_II (edited May 17, 2001).] |
I would like the specs for that box it looks good

I actually used to have a set of OZ components, and loved them, but loved the focal's even more https://www.rx7club.com/ubb/smile.gif "if there's anything worth doing, well, it's worth doing right." ditch the ppi amp though... i would go with a cleaner amp... ADS or xtant is always nice https://www.rx7club.com/ubb/smile.gif where at in MO are you? I'd like to see your setup... peace ---------------- You better pray to God there's some thorozine in that bag... otherwise you're in bad f***ing trouble! |
Originally posted by BOOSTD 7: More pics of the Aura amp, crossovers, and my unfinished wiring. Taken at night, so it's kinda dark. The passenger side crossovers are mounted under the glove box. I just kinda have my mind set on the EVO's, even though I've never heard them. The mass and DD stuff needs more power than I'm going to be giving it. I'm located in St Louis... http://rx7club.wegov2.com/file_depot.../9407/stereo10 http://rx7club.wegov2.com/file_depot.../9407/stereo11 http://rx7club.wegov2.com/file_depot.../9407/stereo12 http://rx7club.wegov2.com/file_depot.../9407/stereo13 http://rx7club.wegov2.com/file_depot.../9407/stereo14 http://rx7club.wegov2.com/file_depot.../9407/stereo15 |
???
a 3500 series 12 is only something like a 500 watt rms... but it will slam on about 200-250!!! ------------------ ZunGuZunGuGuZunguZeng! http://eagle.cc.ukans.edu/~cpark/thumb.jpg |
I got the Aura amp hooked up... noticed a nice improvement. I seemed more open that the other amps. Bass was punchier too. I was actually worried because the damping is rated at 60, which is low. But it runs the sub just fine. The components get loud enough to make your ears bleed now!
I'll probably build another box, try to stuff a full 1 cu/ft in there. And then get an Audiomobile EVO 12" for it. The OZ is one of the best sounding subs I've heard, but it just doesn't get loud enough for a vert. It would be great in a hardtop 7. The EVO 12" has been known to hit over 125db by itself...with my 250 watts I would bet I can hit 120db with it https://www.rx7club.com/ubb/biggrin.gif That should be loud enough! More pics soon.... |
So where are you located?
I've heard a lot of good things about the DD stuff. But I have a couple problems. First, they only make dual 4ohm vc's. My amp could handle running a 2 ohm mono load if the vc's were slightly above 4 ohm each, but theirs say 3.7 each... which would be pushing it. And I definately don't want to run them in series. I saw a review of the EVO that showed that their 3 ohm coils were actually more like 6 ohm, and in parallel they were 3.7, which would be a perfect mono load. Plus the DD stuff is just plain ugly! |
I don't think that Nak are known exclusively as the best SQ units out there. Don't get me wrong, they are very nice, but the top of the line units from eclipse, alpine, sony, clarion, and mcintosh will have equal or better SQ in some cases. Besides the difference between all of these HUs when used with the same speakers and amps would be neglible if even noticeable at all.
BTW, most speakers have a DC resistance that is lower than the published specs. Most 8 ohm woofers (impedance) have a 5.7 to 6.7 ohm resistance. You should be safe using the DD woofer. I would encourage you to look elsewhere for a good SQ woofer, though. btw, good job on the install, looks great! |
i'm located in lawrence, KS just outside KC. Don't have a 7 yet... but as soon as i sell my probe i will https://www.rx7club.com/ubb/smile.gif if only i had time to actually put some effort into selling it...
a friend of mine had 2 DD 3500 series 12's, off a RF 225.2 amp(old, good series). he had them in sealed boxes, and i must say, i was impressed https://www.rx7club.com/ubb/smile.gif THE cleanest bass i have ever heard, next to the Boston Acoustics beetle they have/had/whatever https://www.rx7club.com/ubb/smile.gif 4 boston pro 12's off of crossfire 1000 D's in a beetle really slam!!!!!!! also a great reccommmendation.. the boston pro subs are nice. handle gobs and gobs of power, but sound awesome with just a couple hundred watts. when I get a 7 eventually (looking for a 10th anniv.) I'd definantly be down to hear peace [This message has been edited by mumui (edited May 18, 2001).] |
this may be a biased opinion but i reckon not many 12 inch subs can touch these guys in punch....
look at the surround....1 inch baby =D http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?...nce=0&res=high and the SQ is quite good...... not as good as the DDrive subs tho DUH ------------------ 87T2 Mods: Microtech MT8 ECU 3' Mandrel Bent exhaust High Flow 3' stinky cat 5' SS Tips K&N long cone filter Custom Made BOV Electronic Boost Controller on 6psi\12psi 173Hp @ 6200 RPM RWHP at 12psi on a hot day coming soon: Large Front Mount IC Bigger Fuel Pump Bigger Injectors Inlet Mod with K&N in front section of bumper for cold air induction Stereo: *ooh baby* Pioneer PH8250 HU Alpine SPR 175a splits Alpine SPR 172a Coaxials 2 x Alpine 12' Type R's Lanzar Vibe 900 watt RMS Pionner Stacker 6 Coming Soon Lanzar Vibe 900 watt Amp (another) Lanzar Vibe 240 (for full range spkrs) two more Type R's 0 gauge Cable Phoenix Cap |

Not that I doubt your subs are nice, they probably are very good, but a 1" or 2" surround in some cases have very little to do with the output, or the quality of a speaker. I've seen a 1.5" surround on a 10" with a 7 mm xmax. All it would accomplish is making the radiating area smaller and taking away sensitivity.
And, I'd probably take my $119.00 Shiva over anyones sub in here regardless of price. And I would definitely keep my 199.00 Lambda Acoustics subs over anything on the market at any cost. |
Nice install, and by the looks of it a great component set for the front! I was thinking of a similar setup and was wondering how thick the MDF spacer was that you used for the 6-1/2" speaker?
Unfortunatly I have not seen that brand sold locally, so I may gave to piece my own set of parts together... ------------------ Al |
T2, dont take this the wrong way but if you think you have the best 12" subs for punch then I am kinda doubting you have listened to many woofers in your day. What are those anyways, they dont look familiar to me at all. Also the surround has nothing to do with output, look at some of those generic companys out there coming with like 2" surrounds on their $100 woofers, does that mean they are better, I highly doubt it. Anyways, I havent heard your subs but there are just too many subs out there for one person to say they have the best. My (2) 12" square Solobarics hit 149.5 db in my first run, with the subs being brand new and not broken in. I will have install pics soon, its looks pretty damn good!!

is it just me, or does anybody else wonder how well a sealed box will work by running the wires how they are run? you can see quite clearly in the picture... https://www.rx7club.com/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm43.gif
