Pic of Silver FD (flames welcome ;) )
https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...postid=2785144
1) should I leave the rims stock looking? 2) should I make them black like the Type RS-R (released in 1997)? https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...postid=2785700 3)or gunmetal, like other nice SSM fd's have done? https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...postid=2785750 4) or do you think it would be a shame to ruin a nice set of JDM's with powder? sorry for the professional photo quality, I need to stop treating my camera like a tool. Please don't mention the lift kit I've put on my car (not really)...I scrape leaving my driveway, but as soon as I get my hands on a spring compressor, I'll be scraping a lot more :D TIA |
Silver rims have a very classy OEM look to them, like you're not driving a modded car. It looks like a rich old man's toy. I like this look sometimes, esp. when cruising on weekend nights.
Black rims are very racey, verging on rice IMHO, I much prefer a dark grey / gunmetal. It would be a pity to scrape such a beautiful car. I wouldn't lower it unless you've got a daily driver and a trailer to bring your car to the races with. Is that metallic-film tint, or just a good angle for reflection? Either way, looks cool. I would've bought a silver RX7 if I had a choice. -s- |
I have always liked gunmetal.
P.S. you should lower your car a little |
First picture looks the best in my opinion :)

I prefer the black look, IMO everyone has their own opinion on what looks good, some people hate black. I think the gunmetal looks very good too. Choose what you like best.

|

|

|
Black looks good, but no way its ricey...please.

GUN METAL
|
I'm leaning toward gunmetal...could still look OEM, sleeper stylee :D
What color did the RZ rims come in...didn't efini have some gummetal's released? |
Hey Dub,
Looking good man...Keeping it nice and clean. You and i are still in the same boat. We both need to lower our cars a bit...that will happen after my rebuild.. I would pick the original colour of the wheels if you are going to stay with those...I want to do nice polished deep lip with 5 spoke gunmetal...not sure what manufacturer yet but I am starting to look becasue they are next after the rebuild... Here's a THREAD I started with some nice wheels. edit: who's this https://www.rx7club.com/forum/avatar...ine=1062283908 and where do I find more photos :hitit: |
stay silver
|
Stay silver or polish those puppies!
BTW, where'd you get that 4 finger lift kit? :) |

Stay silver. I am one of the apparent few who doesn't get the gunmetal or black wheel look. They just look dirty to me.
|
Don't make me post up pics again!!!! Tyler you didn't seem to be disappointed when you saw my rims eh?? :D
BTW, when are we gonna meet up and take pics of your new rims? |
I thought I said, "DON'T MENTION THE LIFT KIT!" HAHA!!
Believe me, I would love to lower that b!tch...driveway sux, it's the only place I scrape. I have parts ready to go on, it's just...much much do I want to fawk up that lip??? Thanks for all the replies...I like the JDM finish, but think gunmetal would look aggressive...black looks awesome, if you're on a track. But I don't think changing the color of such nice rims would sit right with me. Maybe I'll powdercoat my stockers black for autoX events??? |
Carson,
Hmm... those look familiar.....The Rims look good on your car.. I say no on the black.. and you know, you could achieve that gunmetal look if you don't clean your wheels for like 2000 miles.. j/k I say stay with silver.. looks so clean. |
I say keep the rims as they are. The car looks stunning :)
|
beautiful car. i personally like the gunmetal look.
|
Stay silver. It looks the best if you are going stock or atleast near stock on exterior.
|
I vote gunmetal....but silver looks good too.
|
I decided to stay with silver as for the "mostly stock" look. To the untrained eye my car IS stock!
Thanks for all the replies...wish I had a better camera :( |

i like the silver wheels the best.

i think those wheels look great the way they are. the car is gonna look great with the drop.
steve |
i would leave them stock, looks best with a sliver car. then again, the gunmetal doesnt look to bad.
|
Here's my take on it:
Silver: Looks TOO bland. Too normal. Doesn't really stand out. It just looks TOO stock for a sports car. Black: You will never have to worry about cleaning your wheels ever again, but I think it's overkill, too. I never liked black rims for the fact that it hides much of the beauty of the wheels themselves. Gunmetal: Now we're talking. I'm going to eventually get gunmetal wheels, too. Gunmetal, imho, is a perfect color wheel for a silver FD. They don't scream out I'm HERE. But they stand out enough to make the car look good. |

Thing is, I don't want to have a crappy powder job done...I'm still leaving them alone for now. I'm like a freakin' woman trying to decide what to do?!?!?! RX187 - to the untrained eye...as in someone who doesn't even know what an RX-7 is. (Which I run into these people all the time.) And to these folks, my car will look stock...because the only exterior mods I have are from JDM RX-7's. So everything looks like it belongs there  Another thing I'm not sure about is the fender turn lamps that came on the efini's...do you think JDM owners wish they had our fenders without the lamps?? I can't make up my mind if I want them to add to the JDM look or not? OPINIONS??? TIA |
Silver and drop it a little.
|
Great looking car. Silver or gunmetal. :)
