Background:
Well the hunt for 94 panels has gone on too long so I'm going to have to go another route. I'm currently considering having my 93 interior panels professionally sprayed piano black.

What do you mean Wanklin? Professionally painted interiors (bodshop work) or spray paint?

Body shop work for sure.

If by Piano Black, you mean high gloss, I highly reccomend against it. I had it like that for a while, and it drove me nuts with all the fingerprints it picked up. The paint was done by a friend at a body shop with proper auto paint.

I didn't like it, so I hit it with krylon's "semi-flat" black paint, then buffed it to a low shine. I like it quite a bit, but my car isn't close to a show car, so it might not be what you're looking for (not that I'm saying you're building a show car, but I don't know what you have in mind for the car)

The car will begin it's life as a show car and slowly work it's way into track and occasional auto-X use.

I appreciate the feedback. Perhaps I'll look into doing a flat/high gloss combonation utilizing flat textured paint on high skin contact areas and utilize the gloss finish around the gauges and A/C surround. The tricky part will be blending the two in a taseful and aesthetic manner manner, which certainly can be done.

I'd still like to see pics of piano black (super high gloss) black interiors however. ;o)

Well, my car's interior was professionally painted (93 panels), but it's not piano black. It's the same color as my car, which is a "metallic black." If you'd like to see pictures of that Rob, I can take them for you and post them up. Let me know if that's what you're looking for.

IMO, the painted panels is the way to go! They look absolutely fantastic and as of yet I haven't had a single issue with them.

have you heard of soft touch paint? I think it'd be pimp...

only think I don't like...is the reflection of every light at night time.

Where can you pick up that velvashield? It sounds like that might be the best choice for respraying the plastics.

That would be great Riz. Post away! What type of paint did you use? Any clear coating or special prep work required?

I am making one last ditch effort to secure a 94+ interior, and will likely end up paying an arm and a leg to do so. If that doesn't work out I'm painting some 93s, simple as that.

This is what I had done for another car. Fiberglass and then taken to a body shop and had them spray high grade primer (in black obvs.)

These pictures are from awhile back. My interior has changed a lot since then, and when I get a chance I'll get more updated pics up.

Anyways this should give you an idea of what painted panels will look like. These were painted by my bodyshop the same color as my car (Metallic Black). I know they clear coated the parts, but I'm honestly not too sure how they prepped them.

I didn't know your car was a 93, why'd I think it was a later model.

I figured I would post picks of my interior for you. Its the stock black with a single gloss cloat. Is looks great on tan. Its an option if you choose to paint the interior...

If you want to see some more pictures I can post some for you. I am pretty sure I have more laying around. Just make sure you prep the pannels good and only put on one coat of clear. Any more coats and you get a horrible reflection in your window from the gauge cluster. One is really hard to notice with only one and less annoying, but that is my opinion.

what kind of paint do you use? and are those the stock plastic pieces that are usually black? i might do this cause mines are fading. and my car only has 33k on it which is sad. mine is a neglected RX7....

I will post more pictures when I get back to my computer at home. They are the stock pieces. You have to strip off the existing paint or what ever it is on them and then you prime and paint them and clear them. I also baked mine in an oven to get a really good stick... The paint color is the stock mazda black for the 93 rx-7.
