Paint prepping fb... bondo problems
 

Im paint preping my car to put a fresh coat of silver on... Im using bondo to fill in some small holes and I was told to use glass bondo... Anyways everytime I spread a layer of bondo and come back and sand it down its got little holes in it and when I try to sand them down all the bondo gets sanded away leaving me right where i started so im wondering if I should only use the glass bondo to fill holes and then use a different type of bondo... I want to get out most of the minor rock chips and little chips... And i am also wondering if I should only be using a powersanded to smooth out the bondo edges and then handsand the rest???? Thanks for the help

They make filler primer that you can use to fill those wholes. You will sand it, but not as much as the bondo.

do you know if its expensive? Im going to paying someone to paint the car im just going to do all the prep work... I just dont want my paint job being worth more then my car...

I had the same problem when prepping my car. There main reason was that the hardener was old. I bought a new tube of hardener and had no further problems. (At least with holes in the bondo :p: )

what type of bondo did you use? how did it turn out?

I actually used an industrial brand. Yellow can, gallon size, but I forget the name. It did not turn out as nice as I would have liked. However, I really did not know what I was doing. <-- Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it. :bigthumb:

I personaly think bondo (or any type of body filler)sucks; you can either weld,solder or braze the holes then use bondo to fill the low area where the heat distorted the metal (since you were going bondo anyway)

the thing is I don't have access to any sort of welding equitment and im not filling in massive holes maybe and inch by 2 inches... just where the side lights where and the rear antenna...

Hello i am a paint guy and you need to use a glass filler first its called Kitty hair and it works great and (you need to use power tools) haha anyway use fiberglass filler first then go with bondo to fill glass pin holes then use a product called dolphin glaze to fill them pin hole in the bondo and then use a (high build primer) and that will get you just fine i do it everyday!!!! alot of steps but its the RIGHT WAY hope this helps and here is a few pic that ive done! and by the way the whole body is fiberglass
