Scrapiron7 04-27-04 04:38 PM

I paid $100 thanks to a hail storm :)

pugg57 04-27-04 05:14 PM

i'm praying for a hail storm :) i really wanna repaint mine a nice dark non-metallic black but i can't afford it now. eventually, i plan on getting everything visible but the engine compartment (door jamps, etc. included) done and then have the engine bay done when i need to swap in a new one. the only draw back to painting now is i don't have any of the body stuff i want for it yet which would mean yet another paint job down the line. oh well, i like my MB for the time being though, its in REALLY good shape and shade.

Jeff,

I have known that you repaired crashed 7's for a while now but this is the first time I have looked at your work. That's awesome. I'm glad there is a guy like you putting 7's BACK on the road.

Awesome.

crazyflipcarlo 04-27-04 06:08 PM

i've always wanted my 7 all black, black body and rims (but have to cahnge the interior too). dark gray and black rims is fine too. i was offered a good paintjob for only $1200 very good friend of mine, but he wants me to put his sticker on my car, not sure about that. i dont like stickers.

spoolin93r1 04-27-04 06:15 PM

i paid $2500 to have mine painted titanium grey. i did the majority of the removal and re-installation of body parts. everything was painted except for the engine bay, but it's black and doesn't bother me so much right now. that price also included fixing a shitload of dents and welding a couple holes in the hatch from the old wing

esebueno 04-27-04 07:15 PM

also depends where youre from....Bay Area CA is like 1000 for a shitty Maako job and up to $5000 for a realllly good one (materials and labor).
damn you CA and your expensive ass prices!!!!!!

east coasters...i hear u can get OUR $5k job for like $3500!!!

ttb 04-27-04 08:16 PM

i gave up on painting my car. all places quoted me 5+ and several months (they'd do it in their spare time).

SICK, one of the best FDs ive ever seen

[G o a T S L o n G] 04-28-04 12:25 AM

I guess the east coast is super cheap. My 240 was hit in the back and the body shop cut the old panel off, welded a new panel on, fixed a million dings, and a few minor dents, painted it bayside blue with a mirror flake (came out amazing!), painted the engine bay blue with no flake (engine was out already due to an engine swap) and painted the inside of the trunk. All for $2700 and I don't have any hook ups with him I just went in cuz someone reccomended him.

RE13REW 04-28-04 01:23 AM

And any one know who could do a nice paint in reasonable price ?

aka_rocket 04-28-04 02:13 AM

paint jobs vary as much as the price of a house. a great job from a guy with low overhead and a need for the work can be 1200$ another guy can suck and not need the work and have high overhead and charge 6K.

forcefed1 04-28-04 07:11 AM

best thing to do shop around and look at their work on others cars. make sure they understand your expectations. if you feel they can live up to them and you like their work. it's probably good.

AMRAAM4 04-28-04 11:36 AM

$2300, fit & install new pieces, everything but engine bay. ;)

turbojeff 04-28-04 12:11 PM

What type of paint are you guys using to get a complete for $2300?

The shop is charging me cost for the paint, BASF Glasurit. $660 for paint and another $40 for sandpaper, tape, etc...

AMRAAM4, your car looks great, let me know what brand of paint they used. This can make a big difference in cost.

DuPont ChromaBase.

However, it was done by a member from my Grand Am board whose family owns their own body shop.....and is out in the boonies of PA near Pittsburgh....and they have their own 3 car shop attached to the house....and his Dad has been doing it for 30 years :p:

I drove 3.5 hours each way just to get it at a small shop with a low labor rate and "down home" service.

Did you go to The Works in Santa Clara? Talk to Chris. They got me in-and-out in only a week and did a great job. A full repaint will likely be $5-7k, depending on how much bodywork (ding repair) they have to do, but they shouldn't be quoting you several months...screw that!

Also, if you want a show quality job, Brian at B&D Auto in Pleasanton is the man -- for almost $10k.

Mr. ImportGuy 04-28-04 01:50 PM

The reason for the high costs on the west coast are the extreame enviromental fees and fines. We are very loosly regulated here in the midwest and in the east. We are not required to have the same amount of enviromental protection equipment as on the west coast.

There is a place called The Works that is about 4 miles from my work, funny...

What's funny about the The Works is that is this rundown-looking warehouse in an industrial area. And then you go inside and see Ferraris, Porsches, Mercedes, BMWs, and other exotic cars getting repaired. I guess it pays for a high end body shop to keep a low profile...

Your car looks incredible. I'd love to see it in person, (since we are in Maryland) at a meet or something sometime.

persuasio24 05-03-04 02:05 AM

How much would it be to match the stock paint (if thats possible) on say a 89 FC for a front bumper , side skirts, and rear bumper? it should be a lot cheaper than a whole body job right?

Well, why don't you go to a few local body shops and ask? That way, you'll actually know instead of getting guesses....

Unless your car has already been repainted, it's likely that your 15 year old paint is pretty worn. Matching wouldn't really be possible.

persuasio24 05-03-04 12:13 PM

Will do.

My paint job was $3800. That included all the body work (bunch of dings), mounting the body kit, hood, and spoiler. Its painted in Chrysler Electric Blue Pearl. (I know I need wheels really bad)

If you aren't man enough to take insults about your nasty-ass front bumper, then don't post pics of it on a public forum....

bladz311 05-11-04 02:10 PM

There are a lot of assholes on this site, and it really pisses me off. People shouldn't act that immature. Seriously now, there are a lot of rude people on here. If you don't like it, then keep it to yourself or don't be so rude about it. I have a hell of a lot of work into my car, so yea, it does hurt when people put it down.

moehler 05-11-04 02:19 PM

I know you were expecting "That's awesome!!" and "That's the most beauiful body kit I've ever seen"..

Get used to it, especially since you posted a huge pic of it. When you do that you're saying "Hey look at my car, I'm proud of it and want to show it off" don't be suprised when someone or even masses of people don't like it. You're now "fair game"...

Also "a hell of alot of work" does not automatically = Looks beautiful.. You can put "a hell of alot of work" into any car and still wind up having it be tacky.. IMO I'm finding cars with body kits more and more tacky as the years go on. I think it's because I'm becoming more of an rx7 enthusiast than a "That rx7 with the body kit looks cool" kind of a person. Or maybe it's just old age setting in.

BTW, 99% of the forum(Series7 = the other 1%) hates veilside...

AMRAAM4 05-11-04 02:49 PM

also, bladz311, I believe you got that work done within the last few months....you should know better about that kit. Not to say you can't like it, but the replies you got shouldn't be a shock and you should know what people are gonna think about it. You clearly aren't one who truly follows by the idea of "it is my car and that is all that matters", so with that I say you should have chosen another path if it upsets you.

RX7INSAC 05-11-04 07:19 PM

I paid $1,900 for my many things to be done:

Ferrari red paint job (not the engine bay)
Install 5 pc body kit
Install sleek headlight kit
Install mirrors
Install hood & hood pins
Shave rear wiper blade and emblems
Remove about 5 door dings

and it turned out great.
