Opinion please, am I turning my beautiful car into a ricer with this tail light mod?

...using aluminum spray paint instead of black like everyone else? Not sure if I like it since I just did it today, but then again I have been looking at the same rear end for almost 10 years now.

(Come to think of it, I've been looking at another rear end for almost ten years also - thank God that one has NOT changed!;)

Oh, well, I can always paint it black easily enough.

Actually, I think I DO like it........and I'm well over 25!:D

Mr Rotary 05-31-02 06:28 PM

Definitely ricer. I don't like it at all :nono: Well I see I won't do that if I get a FD. That's just :gay:

VELCRO SHOES 05-31-02 06:28 PM

Thats pretty cool looking.I don't think its ricey at all.

Mahjik 05-31-02 06:38 PM

Hell, if you like it, you shouldn't care if anyone else thinks it's ricey.. It's your car. ;)

neevosh 05-31-02 06:44 PM

I think it has too much contrast for my tastes. It sticks out too much.

sinfestboy 05-31-02 06:48 PM

Yeah, I know what you mean. That picture was taken in the shade. Surprisingly in bright sunlight it has a lot less contrast. I'm really glad it did not have a "shiney chrome" finish or I'd have to slit my wrists and then hang myself, or buy a Civic. - it's more like flat aluminum.

Ouch..... hey, what's that tune - it sounds familiar - is it the Japanese National Anthem or what?:D

Rx7 TwinTurbo 05-31-02 11:51 PM

It's the vanila ice song. It goes Ice Ice Baby.

Nathan Kwok 06-01-02 09:44 PM

Hey that gives me an idea, what if you sprayed the same color as your exterior? Cause the aluminum look doesn't blend that well with orange-red paint but I bet it would look awesome on a SSM car. Ron, post more pics, its definitely unique and not bad looking at all, just stands a bit much for me.

djantlive 06-01-02 10:28 PM

oh god, its bad....

MrFreeze 06-01-02 10:52 PM

is that your car? why not paint it the same color as the car ?

hawaiiangoat 06-01-02 11:31 PM

Don't do it with aluminum. Find a color that is different from your body color and will match your paint color. Be aware though, if you change a color in the back of your rex you'll need to paint sometinhg in the front to compensate for the difference. Maybe your window wipers. Just a suggestion though. I wonder what it would look like with plain white?

artowar2 06-02-02 03:48 AM

Try photoshopping the pic to see how it looks with what Nathan suggested (i.e., body color).

spyfish007 06-02-02 03:56 PM

Ok, I think we are all in agreement .... try it the same color as your car!

Silver93T 06-03-02 09:31 AM

It looks different and alright. Might be better if you matched ther orange on your car.

It's actually VR, and not faded.......just a cheap digital camera. I've got some VR paint leftover from a recent repair - might give it a try! Thanks for all the opinions, I'm still not sure if I like it with the red either, but it would look bitchin' on a black car....BTW, the mod is REALLY easy to do if you take your time.

BrianK 06-04-02 02:53 AM

I say paint it black... it looks like a sticker otherwise (like those stickers you see on lame cars trying to have circular tail lights). To me, I'd rather not see that it's a conversion - I'd rather just see circular tail lights. :)

Hey, I'm just trying to fake out everyone and make them
think it's a 2003 model.......
What's wrong with stickers? I've got them all over my interior! They make it much more interesting to look at!:fruit: :D

easy p-cheesy 06-04-02 04:31 PM

I don't think that looks bad. I think it would look better if you painted them with the same paint you painted your car with.

Node 06-04-02 06:41 PM

not too bad
not too good
I say try a different color, maybe black, but do a rotor shape like that w/ a transparent black for inside the circle.
If you know what I mean, so it looks like a rotor when its off, but lights up to the full circle when your brakelights are on.

7-sins 06-04-02 07:44 PM

That camera made the paint look orange, I think I like it. As far as the lights, keep them black.

Dragonz818 06-09-02 11:04 PM

Try it with the same color as the car if that doesnt look good go back to the black

Dragonz818 06-09-02 11:07 PM

They look like altezza's for the rex
