Non-Bose Front Speaker Install
I recently bought some Rockford Fosgate speakers for my car. I did a bit of research into it. I made sure to measure the rear speakers, but did not measure the front. Big mistake. I put some 6x8s in the back, they fit fine. I bought some 5.25 for the front, not so good. The speaker depth was 2.03", they also have a tweeter that sticks out a little bit further. Needless to say, they did not fit. After doing some more research I found a website www.mjmautoinnovations.com that actually makes PVC brackets to replace the stock ones. They say that it will accommodate most 6.5" speakers.
Has anybody else ordered these before? If so, how are they? I will post a picture of them installed when they do come in. |

I got a pair of those and 6.5 inch speakers and they fit perfect......

Heres how mine looks like installed!!! You can see the 2 new speaker wire sticking out on the right side of the picture. I dont know which wire is which to hook it up to the factory speaker wire and never did figure it out then I had to leave to Afghanistan...I was just going to run new wires from the speakers all the way to the back of the radio. I hope someone else can shed some light on the wiring for you (and me).... |
I am not sure about the wires. If you wouldn't mind, how deep are your 6.5's and how much do they stick out?

Mounting Depth 1.63 in. They dont really stick out at all the tweeters are pretty flushed with the cone... |
Still Waiting
Well It has been 10 days since I have ordered them. No package yet. I called their customer service number and no answer. On top of that their voice-mail is full. Not looking good. Maybe I am just impatient, but it is not looking good.
Does anybody have any other ideas or suggestions for brackets? |
There is a thread on the forum where GringoGrande was having some fabricated, also discusses an ebay alternative.

http://stores.ebay.com/Speaker-Adapt...=p4634.c0.m322 The front adapters are not there either. Bummer. It would seem that somebody out there could really profit from making these and selling them. |

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...626_112054.jpg i love these brackets and there is enough room to mount your crossovers if you run a component set. my magnets were a lil to deep and hitting the window so i used a few nuts as spacers all the way around and everything fit just fine. |
Have you put the door panels on yet? I did something similar and everything was fine until i put on the door panels. Then I found the door panels were actually coming in contact with the speaker surround, limiting the cone movement.

Also, you might want to consider adding sound deadener. I used Dynamat Xtreme and it dropped the noise level an incredible amount. I pulled out all the interior and did the whole car, including the inner AND outer door skins. It was a pain in the ass though, so be prepared if you do it. You have to remove the HVAC and and dash to get the carpet out. The rest of the interior is pretty simple.
|
yes, i actualy had to trim just a small bit from the back of the door pannel to make it work. i would love to dynomat everything but that stuff is crazy expensive. next i am going to try and find a way to shove some speakers in the rear map pockets.

Update: I did finally recieve the brackets about a week ago. I have installed one on the passenger side. They do fit perfectly, but the wiring harness has to be adjusted. There are basically two options here.
1. Move the Harness. 2. Alter the bracket. (Dremel/ Cut it) I took the second route. It took about 3 minutes to do. After that part, it fits very nicely. Now I just have to get my hands on some good 6.5s to put in there. Badassf4i, how did you install the tweeters? Did you by that piece or make it? |

im just curious, but wouldnt a 6.5 rub on the dust cover?
I mean, even with a 3-way 5" speaker, fitment was already tight? |
I'm running 6.5" kickers and they dont rub anything.
|
sounds good
does anyone know the mounting depth of the adapter? looking above, the person is running 1.63 depth speakers and thats kind of shallow I am thinking about putting in 6.5s with a depth of 2.5" |
Thought I'd wake up this old thread and see how everyone made out with these upgrades? I have a set of 5 1/4 Polks that were in the car when I got it in 2000, driven by an Alpine 100W amp. But thinking in addition to getting new speakers, maybe I would also do this bracket as well.
I would love to get larger speakers in there, and position the door lock actuator a bit better. Any thoughts, adjustments, and speaker recommendations in recent? Thanks! |
I installed this adapter late last year. No complaints at all. Used Infinity Reference X REF-6502ix. Pretty sure I got them from car-speaker-adapters.com
|
Thanks for the reply Randall. There seemed to be a few concerns that a 6 1/2 would push on the OEM speaker grills. No mods needed?
Much thanks. |
