NEW GAUGE CLUSTER FOR 1991 Convertible

5 Attachment(s)
I'm almost done with my 1991 Convertible Turbo II swap and have decided to change the gauge cluster completely.
I purchased an extra gauge cluster from 1991 RX7 and modified it as follows.

I have opted to use the Koso RX2N motorcycle cluster. I chose this one because it has the following features:

1. Speedometer
2. Tachometer
3. Fuel Gauge
4. Water Temp
5. Oil Temp
6. Turn Signals
7. Headlight Bright Indicator
8. Check Engine Light
9. Odometer
10. Top Speed indicator

I also purchased the following gauges from ProSport in Tampa.

1. EVO Boost Gauge
2. EVO Volt Meter
3. EVO Oil Pressure
4. EVO Air / Fuel

Here a pics so far. I'll take more pics once it is installed in my car.

Video Examples of Gauges.

This is so you can get a general idea of what the ProSport Gauges look like. They have an option of displaying in Blue or Red.

Here is an example of the Koso Motorcycle gauge in a RHD FD.

I have to admit the following demo sold me on this gauge...

Nice. Did you use the stock cluster housing for fitament into the stock location?

I dig it! Willing to make a writeup?

Please do a writeup on getting the RX2N working. Were you able to use the OEM speedo cable or did you have to rig something up?

Updates?

I was about to order the same cluster for my FD when I stumbled upon this thread. I'd love to hear your thoughts/experience.

In the middle of my Turbo II Engine swap we found that the convertible body I was building had been welded together from the front to the rear of the vehicle. Basically, some a-hole to the front of a car and a rear of a car, welded it together to make my car. I finally found a good 1991 convertible body and I am in the process of swapping the parts over everyday after work. I will keep you guys posted. The Koso Gauge is pretty straight forward to wire. The only issue I am having is finding a good spot to mount the speed sensor.

I had to order a convertor so I could use the original speedometer cable with the new gauge cluster.

Notice that the adaptor does not seem to be compatible with the original speedometer cable because it has threads on the outside. The manufacturer says that so long as the cable fits in the adapter it will work. I have to figure out a way of attaching the two cables together so it won't move. I initially used electrical tape for my tests and it did work. I'm going to find a more permanent solution.

Awesome Thanks..... Did you ever actually get this done, if so do you have pictures or a video?

bonzotheripper 09-12-12 03:38 PM

This is awesome

Happy New Year

I ran in to a snag with the fuel gauge. The Koso Gauge can either read 0 - 100 ohm or 0 - 510 ohm. The distributor in the U.K. sent me a 510ohm converter that works with the cluster to convert from our 110ohm signal. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I can show you guys the finished product. Sorry for the delay. I have multiple projects and unfortunately this has been put on the back burner. I'm in the process of installing a Fueltech ECU and Precision 7065 Turbo...

JJ42072 10-02-13 08:48 PM

Finished wiring the gauges

I just need to finish calibrating Fuel Gauge. Car will be going to CFT Turbo next week to get Fueltech FT350 computer installed and Tuned....

I'm stoked...Ready to see this puppy haul @$$

That is very cool! Awesome post- I'm looking into an affordable way for me to do that too
