Never seen these before: FD Alum Climate Control Knobs

Surfed over to RP's site to buy some Idemitsu oil, and ran across these. Pretty neato lookin, and cheap enough to make a good gift. They're the 3rd item down on this link:

Mazdabation 10-27-04 12:12 PM

Looks cool, wonder how it would look in a all black interior though. May look out of place....

Great find...I need new knobs, and my interior so happens to have touches of aluminum in it as well. Looks like another items is going on my "wanted" list.

My thoughts as well. Without more accents of AL or a different color interior panels, it will look too be..and dare i use the cliche..Rice.

Are they going to offer them in any anodized colors? I think they would broden there market base by at least having a blue, red, gold,AL color schemes. I think the blue anodized would be OK without too much clashing going on.

Wargasm 10-27-04 12:31 PM

Wait a minute, plain aluminum is rice, but anodized blue isn't!?

BigIslandSevens 10-27-04 12:40 PM

no it is still rice. but the blue would be less obvious!;) The plain AL is literally jumping out of the dash at you.
I would just replace with stock parts. as the AL is too heavy:D j/k!

I actually don't even have any knobs on mine,.. as they are removed for good;)

rotoboy661 10-27-04 12:42 PM

ionno guys looks koo but theres needs to be more aluminum in your interior to pull this look off

like the shift knob, ebrake, or silver face plate for your cd player

just my .02

DamonB 10-27-04 01:05 PM

If they were black I'd buy them. Does the backlighting on the pointer still work? I assume that "dot" is in fact a lense.

ptrhahn 10-27-04 01:13 PM

Hey whats up w/ the RX8 shift knob for only $99 insteat of $250?! Is it because it isn't lighted?

Rx-7Addict 10-27-04 01:13 PM

Would look good, but as others have said, you would prob. need an aluminum shift knob or aluminum faced stereo. Otherwise it might look out of place.

AntiVenom7 10-27-04 01:16 PM

titanium or some dark gray color would be hot.

4CN Air 10-27-04 01:25 PM

it's not hard to anodize yourself, the hardest part is getting sulfuric acid (if you already have a battery charger). The color is just RIT dye. Another option would be to powdercoat them. I thinkt hat's what I'll do, probably go with a satin black to match the stock look.

Since they don't mention the light, that has to be the reason. But it caught my eye too.

scratchjunkie 10-27-04 03:20 PM

these would be awesome anodized black!

RCCAZ 1 10-27-04 03:34 PM

Yes, these knobs are made by Pettit. Cam Worth gave a prototype set to my friend (Dick Lambert) at Sevenstock this year. He said that they were coming out soon. Glad to see that they've hit the market. Just not sure if I want a set or not.

Compilez 10-27-04 03:39 PM

They show a close up pic of what they would look like on... To me, they stick out too much.

Runnin Away 10-27-04 03:55 PM

That clashes insanely with the interior

ptrhahn 10-27-04 04:23 PM

They might look good polished.. to match the bezels and such... but the pic makes them look white.

the_glass_man 10-27-04 05:05 PM

Bling, bling! The new hotness!

rescueranger 10-27-04 05:24 PM

Actually, their mats are very nice. I have seen them in person many times over the years. Seem to be at better quality than OEM, to tell you the truth.

tinfan82 11-04-04 06:22 PM

very nice floor mats because I have them in my car...The only downside is that there isn't the rx7 logo on it..but who cares...overall, really nice floor mats with perfect fitment...

Wow. Good price on the floor mats too! I need a set as well, but I need to replace the carpet on the drivers side first. :(

OMG yea...my jaw DROPPED when I saw that. First I re-read it to make sure it was a 5-spd, then I was like hold up...is it a copy? Nope... Guess it is the illumination factor (can you get them from Mazda w/o illumination?) I'd also wanna know if they're counterweighted too...

Hey Rich

Damn...that sounds like one hell of a deal. But knowing Mazda, $100 for illumination sounds just about right :p: Let us know tho when you get it.

PS...nice nickname lol

The glass always has to be half empty, doesn't it jimbo ;)?

I wonder how many of us yahoos from the Big List 1999 are still chillin' in the rotary (er, RX-7, hehe) game?

 You gotta give it to him Rich...Jim is forever ready w/ comebacks. He never ceases to amaze me. It's simply inevitable :)

Oh and Rich...out of curiosity, just how many people were on the big list? (I didn't know you were on it...wow...you've been in the game for quite a while, eh?) And who else that's still here today was on it?

Flybye 11-04-04 11:40 PM

Those might actually look good if they were black chromed....

DMoneyRX-7 12-11-08 01:33 AM

would you have to get these powdercoated or can you just paint them with regular paint? Also what color would you use to get them to match a 93 interior?

DMoneyRX-7 12-11-08 02:19 AM

if a post is already made why make a new one?

Ok, well would it be better to paint these or powdercoat

If you were going to finish something like that IMO powdercoating would be more durable. Paint, over time, would wear too much from normal use. In fact you may want to consider powerdercoated clear-coat over the the color.

This also probably belongs in the interior section.

GoodfellaFD3S 12-11-08 07:53 AM

Off to the interior section!

Also, I'd think anodizing them black would look pretty sharp :)

The finish is used "as is". Not saying you can't paint them, but unless yours are broken or missing, I don't see the point in getting these if you are going to paint them.

DMoneyRX-7 12-11-08 01:17 PM

the reason i want these is because the a/c level control (1,2,3,4) has a scratch so light shines through, the a/c temp controls indicator is not white in normal daylight, and the a/c direction control is not big enough or something so I have a halo around it when its dark out.

I polished mine, just what the interior needed. Of course, I have a silver/ chrome/ titanium with black theme planned out.

SLOASFK 12-19-08 10:58 PM

Hey Derek, I have a perfect condition stock fan speed control knob if you want it, it's yours for the cost of postage.

A little help from my Dremel (rotary) tool and some green metal polish got the tooling marks off. A match to the bezel rings of the gauge cluster and my custom trim ring around the touch screen.

^Lovin' your work! Would you be willing to do that to the knobs for me?

Sure, PM me for my info. I put around an hour of work into each one to give them a mirror finish. -Matt

I saw a set of rotary-shaped climate control knobs on a magazine. do they mass produce those or they were home-made?

prrex4ever 07-28-10 09:56 PM

They are made in Japan by Super Now. I have a set in my FD, got them from RHDJapan.com.
