May my Alpine 7982 RIP
I've had an Alpine 7982 3 disc in dash changer since new and it's over 10 years old now. Back then any sort of in dash changer was craaaaaazy ;) It's always been perfect but a couple years ago it started getting cranky with disc errors and power dropping out. I bought another 7982 used and swapped all it's guts for mine, keeping only the orginal spindle, pickup and changer mechanism. I also bought new buttons so it looked brand new once again. Fine for a long while and then this winter the pickup began getting weak so I swapped it for the other used one I had. Now the second pickup is already going soft so it's time to retire the deck. I'll miss it but the cost of a new laser pickup is just not worth it. Nothing else IMO was as simple and "non-gimicky" yet still sounded great. The look and the amber lighting suited the FD interior perfectly. Contrary to the rest of the world I actually liked that it used a magazine so I could carry discs back and forth from the house without bringing cases or a wallet and it was so much easier to have another magazine already loaded up to pop in on longer trips.

I really wanted to buy a Nakamichi MB-75 or MB-100 but they seem to have their own sets of problems. http://www.fujitsu-ten.co.jp/release/2000/56050.jpg |
