Maaco Bodyshop ???
Has anybody ever had any paint or body work done at maaco? I need to get my car fixed, and i figured i'd have it repainted also... their prices seem almost too good to be true
just wondering if you guys have any opinions about them |
STAY AWAY FROM MAACO!!!
No FD should be taken to such a place!!!! How's that for a review ;) |
Maaco is where you go if you are selling your car within 2 weeks. That is the ONLY excuse.

cheap but very shady work

If you pay them $2500-3000, you'll get $2500-3000 worth. |
IF you prep the car yourself (sand and primer), tape off, and bring your own clearcoat, itll be a good job...
their clearcoat is really bad from what i hear....it doesnt have the proper UV protectants in it (thats why they can get it so cheap) and will fade really quickly |
where do you guys recomend for a good cheap paint job?
|
^^ that sentence kinda contradicts itself...
with painting, you get what you pay for...cheap=cheap job since youre in CA, its going to be about 5k for a pristine job...maybe 3gs for a decent one |
I know a guy who can do a paint job that is really really good for a really good price. Okay this is what he did to my car, lets see if it sounds good or not:
-painted my whole car inside out(except for engine bay) -paint my brake calipers -molded my side skirts -shave the 99 license plate off -changed my rotors -molded my spoiler so no screws are needed since it was a two piece spoiler -some other stuff too but can't think of it... -all these stuff for 3K oh yeah, he lives in stockton and that is where i live.. if you're interested, i can definitely ask him... here's a pix of my car: all the body work is done by him http://davispimps.tripod.com/lights.html thien phan |
Hey interested in your paint man I am in Modesto hook me up
|
What do you guys think of Earl Sheib? They guarantee good quality work starting at $199.99.
|
There is a reason a good paint job goes for several thousand on up. They aren't just raising the price for the hell of it. You should be able to make your own decision from that.
|
Unless you actually have paint peeling off to bare metal, it won't be worth repainting your car unless you spend $4k and up (in Cali dollars). Find a GOOD body shop. The Works in Santa Clara is excellent.

If you want it to last a long time, spend the $.
My car was painted back in 98 for $3500, stripped down to metal, and it looks as good today, as it did back in 98. -> pix http://max7.rx-7.org/photos.htm to see what 6 year old paint looks like. :) |

They sprayed right overtop of dirt, mouldings, window rubber, etc.. I've only ever seen mediocre Maaco jobs.. one had huge layers of paint peeling right off of the primer 2 months later. Time and care doesn't go into anyone's work for $500. Particularly when their materials cost is almost half of that. |
ask 1sxyrxy for his opinion he got his car painted there recently
|
I need my lip and my 99 spec spoiler mounted
