looks after performance... should i go 11k for style?

Hey everybody... so my rx has been at speed machine performance for a little over a month now and is getting an insane amount of work done to it, 29k worth actaully thats giving it the same specs as the falken fd3s ( it'll be 500+ WHP in a few weeks. anyways, since looks come after performance with me I wanna know what you guys this about the fortune body kit and if i should put in on my car or just go for something more of a stock look. anyways let me know and check it out, its from veilside...

Sure, if you have the means to. I would stick with an S8 theme instead of wasting money for that.

bella_daniela 08-25-07 12:08 PM

i see what you mean but i like originality and i have been throwing ideas left and right for how i want it theres the viper front end conversion and porsche but i dunno what i want, its getting frustrating. I mean i can do it its within my means but i dont want it to look TOO much or too dumb

seven lust 08-25-07 01:35 PM

that kit is just over the top for me... the back looks unfinished like they ran out of ideas, it looks like a boat in the back. also to many hard sharp lines on the kit and should be more smooth and rounded out. The side vent on the side of the car to me looks like it should have went the other way, If you can fix all these things then it may work, thats just my opinion, but thats what you were asking for.

martinb003 08-25-07 02:41 PM

this kit is insane! theres a reason its worth 11g's. its a super car with that kit, take a group of rx owners and put that car in front of them, youll have them guessing what it is with out a doubt!
and its OUR car Danielle.

no I disagree. That kit was in tokyo drift and it will always be flagged as the kit from that movie. Also a group of rx owners standing with this in front of them would know what this is " with out a doubt" I would put money on it. It would not fool any of them. the kit could be alot nicer if it was modded, but then You are talking about making major changes to $11,000 + kit. If money is not a concern ( and it sounds like it is not) then go for it and make a few changes. I would stay with the darker colors(black on black)for this kit to help hide some of the bold lines. keep it solid no two tone!

bella_daniela 08-25-07 03:39 PM

no two tone, i wanted actually that dark grey or grafite color.

MADDSLOW 08-25-07 04:17 PM

That's funny, I was just in this section searching for a link to answer your "myspace" bulletin.

Far too "look at me!" for my tastes, and I just don't believe it is worth the 11g price tag. A 99 spec 20B would be MUCH nicer!

SayNoToPistons 08-25-07 04:57 PM

It's getting quite common. I've already seen more than 3 people on this forum with that kit. It's going to cost more than just 11k for the kit. Think about the body work, the fitting, paint, wheels, tires, and brakes (stock brakes look funny with giant wheels). Don't forget the worries you'll have with the kit. "Oh no!! a speed bump!".

RX7 RAGE 08-25-07 05:00 PM

I prefer the stockish 99 spec look. :)

bella_daniela 08-25-07 06:09 PM

yea i just saw another post with someone talking about their wide body kit and it was the fortune, but i didnt see the tokyo drife movie- i gave up on fast and the furious. anyways, i wanted it to be original but i dont think i am going to go for it now. maybe just a clean stock look

good to hear no fortune! it doesn't have to be all stock just don't stray to far from it.

bella_daniela 08-25-07 06:35 PM

thats what i was thinking too, i dunno it just gets so overwhelming to make decisions like that, the performance it really wasnt that hard~i wanna go fast, insanely fast without having the car break~ but looks wise its a whole nother story.

SayNoToPistons 08-25-07 06:42 PM

Indeed!!

I'd keep it relatively stock and if you want a body kit go with something else.

I'll admit i HATED the Veilside kit, and while it's grown on me a little, i still wouldn't want it if i had the means. What it boils down to, is that this is your car, do what you really want.

Callsign_Vega 08-25-07 11:17 PM

If you are putting down a lot of horsepower you will need some serious meat in the rear. That means a wide body kit or molded quarterpanel flares. Personally I think molded quarter panel flares look silly on a stock RX-7. Next, you are asking what other people think of your prospective purchase on something completely subjective. It only matter's if you like it or not. I've seen a lot of people recommend stuff that I wouldn't be caught dead buying/driving.

You have to also realise that with human nature, someone will say something is a lot less appealing if they don't have the means to attain it. I am not saying that goes for everyone, but a good majority. I personally think the Fortune kit is very nice. Granted it is very pricey, but that's what it takes to get you into the super rare looks category like supercars. As long as you use colors with class and not bright "look at me colors", the car comes out excellent. Just because the car kit was in a movie doesn't automatically make it bad. To the person that said the kit isn't rare anymore because three have it on the forum; I laughed at that one. Considering pretty much most RX-7 enthusiasts come here, that would be like saying stock bodied FD's are like Toyota Camry's on the street.

VeilSideBrian 08-27-07 02:32 PM

Ohhhh man this kit was made WAY before the movie came out.

the kit came out almost 2 years before the movie jus fyi!:suspect:

seven lust 08-27-07 06:26 PM

yes I know, but it was still in the movie and made famous from the movie regardless if it was made two years before or not. Sorry but that is how the public will view it pulling into any parking lot or driving down the street. Among the rx7 owners, it made be a little different but not much. Still would not stray to far from the stock lines of the car.

KhanArtisT 08-27-07 06:34 PM

Its an FD, don't ruin it with a stupid body kit.

Thanks, KhanArtist... Whenever I see these threads, I want to comment, but seldom do. The point has been made so many times here. The FD is one of the most beautiful sports car designs of all times. As time passes, nobody is ever going to say in 5 years, "hey, wow, that Veilside kit from 2001 is the most beatiful sports car design I ever saw". No more than guys my age look back at a Fiberfab Jamaican body kit on a volkswagen chassis made in 1966 and say what a winner that design is today. Its just somebody selling a trendy-styling kit that will be forgotten in a year or two. The stock FD will still be beautiful in 20 years.

On the other hand good design is to some limited degree subjective and I can understand the agonizing decisions here. But, being selfish, another Veilside transformation leaves one fewer stock FD's, and that increases the value of mine...

I say just leave it stock looking and put some really nice wheels on it. Maybe do the '99 spec conversion, too. The stock lines are so nice that very few bodykits actually do anything to improve the look.

PowerStripe 08-29-07 01:24 AM

just curious, is your FD red? i live right down the street from speed machine and my dads office is right next door to them. If ur 7 is red then i have seen it there unless its someone elses. small world.

oh and that falken FD is a sexy beast in person. Whatever you choose i guess i'll be one of the first to see it if they end up doing the install
